    Hi,
I have a 1993 VFR, I'm the original owner, it is stock, about 15k miles so far.
The only problem it has ever had was the voltage regulator, which was easy to fix.

Now it has a new problem that makes it difficult to ride until I get it fixed.

Cold start it idles at 4000, even with the manual idle adjuster backed off as far
    as possible.

It idles at about 3000 when warmed up.

I did a search on the forum, but no conclusive ideas were found.

I suspect the choke might be stuck "on"
    OR
Could there be a vacuum leak causing a lean mixture?

    OR ????
Any ideas and suggestions will be greatly appreciated, I miss riding already!!

    Thanks

    Possible culprits:
    Bound up throttle/choke cable/linkage
    - when you pull the throttle and let go, do you hear the snap of the throttle plates? (engine off)

Choke valves not closing all the way.
    - Does moving the choke affect the idle at all?

yeah I'm leaning towards either a sticky choke cable, or a carb removal, clean, and re sync
that should help for sure, but hey what do I know I'm only a tech.

    Hi,
    Thanks for all the tips!
It was the choke linkage sticking.
There are many friction points in the linkage,
and Honda put in some weak springs that after 15 years just don't any more.

So I put in "push-pull" springs of my own, acting directly on the linkage lever, rather than take the entire mess apart.

Works fine now! I can't wait to ride it again, the weather has improved
very much, low bug count too.
