Hi all! I have a 98 5th gen vfr that I have just done a motor swap on. every thing seems to be in order, compression across all cylinders is good and reciving spark to all plugs hovever for some reason the fuel rail will not alow fuel in. The pump is in good working order, infact it caused a fuel line to burst today. Anyone know what my problem may be before I go through the process of dissmanteling and cleaning the rail?
It actualy sounds like the fule pump is has to much puresure i would check that first, also be sure there arn't any kinks in the fule line.
the hose that burst was old and had been cut and spliced by the previos owner. it did not burst at the splice however. The fuel pump worked fine with the old engine. the pump also cycles fine. When the hose burst I was repeatedly turning the ignition on and off causing more and more pressure in the line.
I don't know the specifics of the VFR F/I, but there is usually a pressure regulator with a check valve in between the fuel pump and the injector rail. The regulator has one input and and two outputs. The input comes from the fuel pump, one of the outputs goes to the fuel rail, and the other outlet should go to a return line to the fuel tank. Most of the time, the regulator is mechanically coupled to the fuel rail, so the pressure outlet connection is tough to mess up. The fuel input and return connections can be reversed, although the return connection is usually smaller than the input connection. If the check valve is stuck or you have the fuel line connections reversed, there is no way for the fuel to flow past the regulator.
Lgn is basicly right there is no way it should have that much pressure so check those areas and get back to us
