    just bought a 1985 VF500F project bike.
so far it needs a right mirror and it looks like some fender/fairing
above the back wheel where the license plate should mount to.
looks like someone cut it off. looks like I'll be spending a lot of time here on this site!

    Welcome Grinster.

Did you mean VF500F? to my knowledge, they didn't make a VFR500F.

I have two of them. Well, actually 1-1/2. One that I ride and the other that I pull the occasional part off of to put on the one that I ride.

    yup they chopped the tail

Looks like a nice bike, what did you give for it? From your pic, looks like tey remved the rear tail section , cut off the fender and lic plate mount, moved the tail lights, and then mouned the brake light under the seat. Looks like they cut out framework too... Does it run currently?

paid $300 currently it does not run, but does turn over. Thank you for describing what is missing from the back section. Everything is there enough for a rideable bike, but still needs some parts like you mentioned above and a right-hand mirror, and windshield.
bike only has 14,000 miles. the engine is supposedly rebuilt. was sitting for 4 years so it will need the carbs disassembled and cleaned. I have the fuel tank off to repaint. do you know where I can get some of those body parts, like the license plate mount?
I have an other post about what is missing on the bike.

here are your fender rail mounts

eBay Motors: 86 Honda VF 500 F interceptor fender rail mounts (item 290217587217 end time Oct-21-08 19:18:54 PDT)

    Rear grab handle

eBay Motors: 86 Honda VF 500 F interceptor grab bar (item 290217585667 end time Oct-21-08 19:13:11 PDT)

    Rear sub fender/lic plate mount

eBay Motors: 84 Honda VF 500 F Rear Sub Fender (item 360048266301 end time Sep-27-08 19:47:15 PDT)
