    Hey guys,

I have a 2000 VFR with 32k on the clock. Over the summer I put a Vance and Hines SS2 carbon fiber on it and it runs great! I didn't have any problems with the bike when I was running it everyday... High rpms, low rpms no problems.

Then I parked the bike for about a month with 2 gallons of gas in the tank. I just came back up tonight to pick it up and ride it back down to school.

After about 10 miles the FI light came on steady. I wasn't doing anything crazy, riding at about 6k rpms. The light stayed on and I didn't notice any difference in performance... So I hit the kill switch and popped the clutch and the light went out when the bike restarted.

    I got gas.

10 miles down the road from the gas station the same exact thing happens.

30 miles from there it happens again when I'm passing a car.

Note, I notice no problems with accel. while the light is on.

Just tonight I thought I'd go for a nice run around town. Keeping the engine temp. up at about 210 degrees - 215 degrees while I'm going stoplight to stoplight.

I was having fun making noise through town with the pipe so I kept it in first gear and was running it up to 7-9 k at times and then letting it wind back down at a stop.

After doing this for about 15 minutes I noticed the bike was backfiring more upon engine breaking coming up to the stoplight and then the rpms would drop to 1k and then stall.

Any ideas to what would cause this? (I also adjusted my idle so it runs around 1500 but still same problem)

    Thanks guys!

Well, first thing is first. Since you bike stalled, and wont start, have you checked the battery?

Can you pull stored trouble codes on a fifth gen? If so, I would pull the codes and see what was causing the FI light. Like Powderrecon said, since you left it for 2 months, I'd look at the battery first.

    Oops sorry about that...

The bike runs great. When it stalls at the light it starts right back up...

I'll have to find some wire and pull the codes for you guys... it sucks since I'm at college and basically have no tools...

Check you r/r. It can make weird things happen. there are plenty of thread telling how to do it so I won't bore you trying to retype what people have already done better.

Well I left this part out...

I thought last year I was going to have RR problems because when I revved up my bike my dash and headlights would get brighter...

    I checked the voltage, between 14.5-15.5... o.k.

I added a PC fan to the bike and never thought anything else of it...
Well I started having all these problems now and I'm thinking, gee it could be the RR unit I guess...

Today I rode to my girlfriends. Bike acted like it wanted to stall at a stop but I kept revving it. On the way back I had the same problem and also some surging around 4-5k... the rpms were dropping too much at a stop and I had to rev it to keep it running.

The idle rpms are inconsistant depending on how I ride the bike.

Will an RR faillure show up when I check the codes? I'm now an hour and a half away from my house (at college) and I don't want to risk not being able to get her home. (I have no car down here either).

Well, it sounds like it is up to you if you want to "risk" getting stranded on the way home. It almost sounds like an R/R problem, since it is stalling at low RPM's and surging above that. Have you tested the battery voltage with engine off, and at idle? If it is much below 12.7 or so something is amiss. If you leave school before dark, and you think it is the R/R...you could pull the headlight fuse to save some juice for your trip home.

Oh, two other things....and an R/R failure will not show up when you check the FI codes, and it is normal for your headlights and dash lights to get a little brighter once you rev it up.

Unless you are a gambling man, you might want to use a truck to get it home...IMO

Ok well i shot out to Pepboys to get some Seafoam because of the idling issue... After I put it in 3 minutes down the road the FI light came on and I got a stumble.

Also the bike is now popping a lot on decel. and then stalling when coming up to a light.

Does this sound like spark plugs to anyone?

Anyway, i'm gonna check codes now...

Ok I ran the codes and it blinked once (long blink) which indicates:

Loose or poor contact on BARO sensor - or -
Open or short circuit in BARO sensor wire - or -
    Faulty BARO sensor

    Where to go from here?
