I haven't posted here in a while but I thought I should share my experince and praise God that I'm still around. I'm not a fan of riding at night much because of the number of deer in my area, but because of the $5 a gallon gas we currently have, I've been riding the bike to work most of the time lately. I was on my way to work tonite, thinking what a beautiful night, temps in the 60's, no traffic, just me and the the moonlite on the road. It was around 10:30pm when I rounded a curve to find Bambi standing in the opposite lane about 50 feet away. I immediately started to brake but you guessed it, the deer jumps right into my path. I hit her between 50-60 mph but was able to keep control and pull to the side. I would like to say it was my superior riding skills and experience that enabled me to ride it out but I won't BS you all like that.:bs: The Viffer held up well considering, busted fairing, several twisted pieces and fur everwhere but I was able to ride her home. As for me I have a very sore left leg, a story to tell and the joy of looking forward to the insurance company raising my rates but I feel very lucky, maybe I should go get a lottery ticket! WATCH OUT FOR THOSE DEER.
Yes, the lotto is in order and maybe it will pay for the insurance hike. Glad to hear your alright! That had to be a check your underwear moment.
Praise God you made it out the way you did brother, damn! Well, don't feel too alone. This past weekend at a NESBA track day in WV a rider hit a deer on the track! Here's the link to the post: Summit Point Zoo - NESBA TrackTalk Forum BZ
WOW!!! Say it ain't so. I hate to hear about that. Did the deer have insurance? Glad you are OK. I guess we'll have to delay our ride. If there is anyway I can help, let me know.
"Did the deer have insurance?" Good one! Sorry to hear about your bike but glad to hear you're okay. The bike can be fixed. Keep up your spirits!
Yo, glad you are Ok, could have been worse for you, suppose not much worse for the deer. Thats a fair speed to hit anything. Heal well.
Are you sure you want to report that to the insurance company? I don't know what kind of damage you had to it but it could be cheaper just to fix it yourself or take it to a body shop place.
If it makes a difference.........most insurance companies will not raise your rates if the you have less than 2 claims in a 3 year period, and the claim was "an act of god". That being said, a deer hit is considered a not at fault accident (in most but not all states) and shouldn't raise your rates.
Where is the deer.... Did you bring the deer home (Road kill) Deer steak, Jerky, Sausage......etc Yumarty2::hump::hungry:
Sorry to hear about the deer incident. As long as you got to walk away, can't beat that. Good luck on the repairs. I have state farm, and I think the lady told me that for things like that, they will not raise your rate. I had asked about that kind of situation, since I do a lot of riding in the mountains.
The deer left a huge trail of blood but ran back into the woods, I would think she probably ran off to die but my knees was too wobbly to try to track her down. At that point I wasn't real concerned about jerky but it certainly does sound good now. As far as insurance, supposedly on a comprehensive claim my rates will not increase and this doesn't appear to be a large claim. The damage doesn't appear as bad as I initially thought. (Related thread "Help 6TH G owners"). It appears to be limited to front fairing, the small cover near the left handlebar and possibly the left side panel( Hope most will buff out of that panel). Parts going to be around $500 if I don't need the side panel and I will do the install myself. The only pics I have is of deer fur embedded in my pants from the ankle to the knee. I wish I had video but there's plenty of those on youtube to remind me how lucky I am. Thanks for all the well wishes, I'll be back on the road soon.
sorry to hear brother, but as you said Thank God because He just pulled off another miracle. Everyone here knows that was a bad situation with minor damage to the bike that's not the least bit important, and you walk away. Yes sir, Thank God.
