:canada:So all you Canadian FVRWorld folk. We all know our friends to the south are having an election. Their campaigns last for what 18 months. We have a federal election coming up here just announce two weeks ago, and election day is mid October.

Ours isn't nearly as colourful as the Americans but what do you think about our leaders and their platforms?:canada:

Well your West of Manitoba so....your voting for the diesel tax right?
    oh wait that’s the liberals.

Basically I’ll be going conservative. I do think Steve has done a good job and on foreign policy Canada has a lot to be proud of. We are deployed but in Afghanistan we have seen huge improvements and just 2 weeks ago we handed over what was the worst province for violence back to the afghan police and are finished there and people can once again walk down the street without fear of being shot.

On the economy I think he has done well, especially considering the mess the states is in. Mind you being from Alberta I am insulated from that a bit(hmmm oil).

Without listing issues I think the Conservatives have the best policies and plans going forward.

By comparison we have the Liberals who are proposing “green taxes” that would hurt farmers most, as well as penalizing manufacturing and oil production. Call me crazy but with the states econmie looking unstable and settling into a decline and there doller poised to drop...why woudl you hurt our econmie when it will be under strain from the states decline. Hurting the econmie for a green tax seems really really stupid when it targets most of our econmie at such a bad time when a non taxation program could easily net the enviromental benifit of tax(dollers don't help the environment). instead focus on inovations and existing tech that is more green as the conservatives are. The conservitave plan in the end will be greener, chear and not gut our econmomie......So I’m not quite sure who benefits other than industries that don’t actually do anything other than pushing paper.
They also seem to be on the wrong side of just about every issue…and who’s main platform selling feature is a tax. Not to mention Dion himself. I just don't see anything in the liberals one would support. Not to mention there party is still a mess.

The NDP just scare me, they are evil.
I hate unions with a passion after being in 2 and currently working with another. Yes workers rights should be guaranteed as they are in every province and the time for them has long since passed. Workers enjoy many rights and hardly need a union to fight for them. Unions get in the way of progress and hurt workers. They also reward lazyness as it is impossible to get fired and promotions and raises are based on time working rather than the quality of work produced or an employee’s potential. It is also impossible to get rid of a union, yet so easy to get one.
Also the NDP has a lot of bad policies simply because they can, being an almost no player in Ottawa means they can say anything they want if they feel it is popular mainly because no matter what they say it has no effect. They are also really good at saying the things people want to hear but if you look at there goals they are very very different.

The bloc…well why would a vote Quebec more power so they can have more special privileges than the other provinces? Alberta BC has more right to separate.

So that’s how I see it but I always see conservatives doing well because I am in western Canada and the people out east always seem to vote liberal.

I do hope for a slight majority government as depending upon the block and NDP to pass resolutions is just silly and gives these parties for more power than they should. will also let the goverment take action rather than waiting for every one to posture for power over every little issue and nothing gets done.

I also look forward to the debate, I also find it interesting the green party is there.

Edit:how did my post get so long?

Very interesting You have obviously given this considerable thought. I don't quite agree with "all" your take on unions but that is another thread. And wouldn't that be a heated one.

BTW. Regarding the diesel tax cut. I have a Duramax. But haven't filled it up since end of vacation in June and still have over 1/3 tank. The VFR though is another matter. How about a tax cut on motor cycles. What is greener than this other than walking or a bicycle. And here in BC there is no PST on bicycles already. Think the Feds would cut the GST on them as well. Sounds like a question we should be asking our candidates.

haha ya, save unions for another thread, i'm bound to get all worked up.

I also agree rather than tax consumers why not support and encourage greener life styles. I also agree strong with something like no GST on vehicles used for transportation that get over 40 MPG(have to have something so people don't squeeze quads and toys in there) as well as fuel efficient semi's. also government funding of bike paths would help a lot. Maybe even lane sharing :)
you should encourage people to be green not penalize them simply for living. It's not as though the people actually paying these taxes are intentionally polluting above and beyond.

I also do not own a diesel I drive a sexy green station wagon...oh ya!

I am surprised that green is such a large focus of the parties. Very little is being said on the Economy on foreign policy. To me those 2 issues should be much larger than they are currently.

Dion wants to RAISE gas prices and taxes on "polluting industries" Wtf!?
And then they are going to return it to you with a bigger tax return???
Why would anybody trust their hard-earned money to a Liberal shell game?
This "green shift" plan has "boondoggle"written all over it!

Dion just strikes me as a bumbling boob!

I'm not canadian and I don't even know (and care) about what goes on in my USA homeland. But I remember reading that the canadian bikers have to spend outrageous fees on MC insurance in the neighborhood of over $1,000 per year. That's just insane. With me, I only have to pay $160 per year for my VFR and I don't see why bikers in canada have to pay so much.

Hi USA and Canada Guys !
IMO (I learnt this acronym, Randy) politicians think that bikers are people from which to obtain taxes..I mean that here in Europe insurance fees and "property taxes"(yes, we pay a special tax because we owe a motorcycle) are proprtionally higher than taxes for cars.
For my Old VFR I pay much more taxes than for a luxury car. They think that bikes are luxury goods ! So, are you still debating about Reps and Democrats or about Labour or Cconservative party (as in Europe) ? THEY CONSERVE THEIR MONEY AND PRIVILEGES !
And they can not receive my famous LAMPS ! It is only for VFR owners !
    Ciao everybody ! Carmine

? I don't believe that to be the case. Year round insurance w/ collision and full coverage including theft, bears, gremlens and unicorns came in at $410 a year for a new rider(me) at age 25.

maybe Sask. it's that high because they have some wierd insurance program. Also no special bike taxes, just registration at the same cost as a car.

also the 2 main parties in canada are Conservative, and Liberal. Although they don't really hold to there titles at all...

Okay, I was going to let this go by, but once you get onto insurance (which has nothing to do with the election)....

I am more that twice your age and haven't made a claim since oohhhh 1980, and have not had a ticket (even a parking ticket) in 20 plus years, and I pay $1,000 a year for insurance (which of course only is really "used" April to November). BTW this has been well shopped around, so it is not just my ins company.

I also pay enough in income and property taxes to support a small town in Quebec!

Every government believes it has the right to raid your pocket, it is just a matter of how they dress it up. They believe in "progressive taxation", which is to say that the more you earn (creating wealth and jobs for the country) the more you should pay in taxes (as a percentage).

I have built a company from nothing and created 14 full time high paying jobs, and pay more in taxes now than ever. I should have stayed outside the country rather than returning in 1994.

To the Canadians: you have probably discerned that I am neither a Liberal nor an NDP voter, and it is unlikely that i will support the Green party!

Wow, what a rant, very unusual for me!

    John

HEY! I am the official Canuck Ranter. Get off my corner Pally!

BTW. A few provinces have Public Insurance. Manitoba, Saskatchewan and BC. I don't know about the Maritimes. My insurance (53 years old, no claims one ticket in 30 years) is full coverage full year $1800.00.

But motor vehicle insurance is a provincial matter. Nothing can be done by the Federal Politicians about this. Where they can make changes is in taxes, be it GST and fuel. PST rebates will have to await a Provincial election. The Feds could probably come up with an incentive of some sort for those to decide, for what ever reason, to drive a vehicle that is more ecologically friendly.

heh,, PST...thats why you fill up before you cross the boarder.
and as mentioned many things are provincially regulated.

Another reason why i think it so odd that the liberals platform focuses so little on what the federal gov't is there for. the economy and foreign policy. The provences already have environmental programs.

It Stays the same. East vs West. Jeff, you are just a red neck radical Ba#$%^d:bootyshake2:

BTW. I haven't had my leg up over the steed for three weeks now. It has been sitting in the garage so long it has fly shit all over it. I have sure missed some great riding weather. Sucks.

Speaking of taxes, In my former life I had to wear a uniform. Some of which I had to buy. And I bought from the government for a government job. I had no choice. And I had to pay GST to the government for government uniform for a government job for which I was paid by the government and now collect a pension from that same government Now I ask you, doesn't that just frost you nickers?:bs:
