ok so my roommate is looking at possibly buy a 1991 vfr I don't know much about them. The owner is bring the bike by our house tomorrow and asking $2800. The pics look clean and this is what his post said:

"Selling my 91 Honda VFR 750 Interceptor...750cc DOHC 16 valve liquid cooled V-4,gear driven cams (never needs timing chain/belt),single sided Pro Arm swing arm derived from Elf racing in France, new Maxxis Supermax tire on rear, new D&D carbon fiber slip on exhaust, upgraded LED bulbs in brake light, good plastics and paint.Bike has 47xxx miles on it and runs great. These bikes easily go 100,000 without any trouble. No dents in tank,no rips on seat. All electronics work.Newer battery.6 speed.Adult owned and not abused or stunted.Very comfortable seating position. All options including clock, center stand, and rear seat cowl (rare).155 mph top speed and 120 mph in the 1/4 mile, this was in 1991!Runs,rides,looks,and sounds great,40 MPG.I always get compliments whenever I stop somewhere.Looks better than most newer bikes.Just lubed throttle cables, newer chain, oil change, and air filter plus carbs synched.Come see this bike, hate to sell but need something smaller that fits me better, price is firm."

Is this a good deal??? Thanks for your input!

Well with out seeing it hard to tell, somethings you just need to see, but if it's clean 2800 isn't out of line. Nice find for someone. those are getting harder and harder to come by. Oh and he's right on all the parts about the bike and 47K ain't all that bad if it was taken care of, it is due for the next valve check service at 48K

What catches my eye is "no rips in the seat." That's pretty impressive for a '91. I'd think he's taken good care of it. I'd be pretty interested to see this bike. You can't be sure what "plastics in good shape" means, though, until it's in front of you. If there are no major scratches, original paint and decals intact, and it runs as expected for a '91 VFR with 47k miles on it - like it was made yesterday - I'd jump on that bike in a second.

But I also happen to think that it's best looking model year. The black trim around the windshield and the gold-ish wheels really compliment the red, nicely.

as the others said, it depends on the condition. one thing to be aware of is that as the VFRs age, parts are getting harder to come by especially in the aftermarket segment. That bike has a narrow selection of aftermarket goodies. Not important now, but down the road it can get to be a real headache for some people. The price isn't a steal, but it's not gouging I don't think.
