So after disassembling the engine and putting it back together, my bike will not go. It will start and ideal with the choke full on, but the alternator coupler must be unhooked(if it is hooked up it will not start). And I think I may have installed the cams wrong because when it is idling every few cycles there is a more forceful puff from the exhaust. And whenever the throttle is pulled at all the engine dies. The carbs were cleaned when the engine was apart and the fuel pump was bad when I bought it so I made it gravity fed, so its definately getting gas(petcock on and theres a full tank). If any one has any ideas where else I screwed up please help. Otherwise if you need a parts bike and are in the bayarea let me know.

Check the cams, but I'll bet the problem is with the carbs. Those are easy to get screwed up even when doing a simple cleaning.

Let us know what you find out.

I pulled off the carbs and recleaned them, two jets were still a little clogged. After reinstallation the bike started, but it dies if the throttle isn't pulled at all, having the choke on doesn't make a difference the rpms drop and the bike dies unless the throttle is on. Also it still backfires, but not as regularly as it did before. The cams looked right when I checked them. Does this sound like it's still a carb problem? At least it's ridable again though.
