83 VF750F valve adjustment question

hello, i'm new to the vfr community. i have rebuilt a 83 vf750f which i bought all taken apart. sorry no pic's yet. my question is in regard to valve adjustment. i have started out at tdc at the indicated t1-3 and adujusted the clearances on cyl. #1 (left rear). next rotating ccw 90 degrees to t2-4 to adjust cyl. #4 (right front) the rocker arms are not loose and the cam lobe is in a position where i can't get a wrench on to loosen the locknut. now the odd part, the rocker arms for cyl. #2 (left front) are loose and those valves look ready to be adjusted. after rotating ccw 270 degrees again to t1-3 cyl. #3 (left rear) could be adjusted. then rotating ccw 90 degrees again to t2-4 cyl. #4 is know ready for adjustment. it seems to me that cyl #2 and #4 cams are somehow reversed or am i missing something. i am not new to motorcycling i have been riding 20+ years and have done this kind of work all along. any help would i can get would be great.

 

problem fixed

the vavle problem has been fixed. someone must have worked on the motor before i got it and when replacing the cams did not index them properly.

 

Make sure you either use the Honda cam tool or put a feeler gauge under each screw for the side you are adjusting. Otherwise, the cam can rock in it's mounts and give you a false reading...

 

thanks for the info. i have a honda shop manual for this bike. i just need to get another feeler gauge so that i have two of the correct size.
