    Hey everyone,

Just a note to say Hi Ya'll,:hi2: Brand new to biking if not a little late. Bought my Eleanor last Saturday and have my test booked for the 20th . Would be most grateful for any advice from the more experienced, together with anything you think I really oughta know about the bike :hail:.

After 3 weeks of searching and being given all sorts of advice on what makes a good first bike , I had it narrowed to the Yamaha FZ1S Fazer 1000, Honda CBF 1000GT or a VFR 800. I was almost to the point of buying the CBF because it was fully fared, but I didn't really want a black bike and this is the only color option on the GT :decision:.
In one of the shops I haunted, the salesman wheeled her out from the workshop where she had just arrived. (the engine was still hot), and I knew straight away my search was finished. So with difficulty, I concealed my glee :party2: and haggled the price I was happy with. She is an A8 VTEC in burgundy red with just under 4000 miles, heated grips, scotoiler and all the luggage . I've also ordered a hugger and crash bungs to be fitted this week.
Anyhow, I know I go on too much but I'm just so excited :whoo::whoo:.
I think I've managed to add a couple of pictures as attachments, but again, not sure how all this works yet. Look forward to hearing from you.

    Doug :yo:

That certainly is SEXY!! Congrats, and welcome aboard.

The bike is fairly heavy. Be very careful with it at low speeds, and take your time for the first few months until you get used to it. Respect the bike, and you will do great. Please make sure you take an MSF course if you have not already done so.

The great folks here should be able to offer you more advice. Ride safe, and enjoy your new bike.

Nice looking bike. I'm sure your excited to ride, but do take your time learning the bike and how it will handle. Your best offense is your defense, always look out and expect for some one to pull out in front of you. Welcome to the forum.

That's a great looking bike. Burgundy's my second favorite color on that bike; of course RED is the fastest color. I don't know if you read any of the previous newbie threads but it seems the general consensus for new riders (on this site) is not to get a vfr. :bs: You can get in as much trouble on a 250 as you can get in to on a vfr.
However, my first bike was a vfr and i believe if you know how to drive a manual transmission, take the motorcycle safety course, take it slow, and know your limits you'll be just fine.. And for god's sake the use of common sense goes a hell of a long way.
Take it slow, Ride safe, and enjoy your new bike. That's what I did. :welcome:

Not to nit pick but Honda calls the color Dark Candy Red. I have an '07 that color and I love it.

Sweet bike. I'm new to this forum and the VFR (my first bike too). I love it and have about 3K miles under my belt now. It's been a great bike to learn on. This forum helped me a bunch. Not only with the purchase, but since then with tire and recall information as well as commander IIIusb help.

Welcome Johhny! You will LOVE the bike. Just be careful and take it slow for a while. Then, when you think you are feeling at ease with it...TAKE IT EVEN MORE CAREFULLY because it is often when you have a few thousand miles under your belt that you lose concentration. And watch out for gravel and sand and wet spots when you have your feet on the ground...it is easy to have your foot slip out and dump the bike as the unexpected poor traction spot causes disaster.
Oh, and with regards to the year and color...your typo of "A8" confuses me (us)...if it is the same red I have it is an 07. The 2008 bikes only come in silver.
    ENJOY and welcome!!!

    Hey Everyone,

Just to update I did pass my test on the 20th. Aced it . Takin it easy and leaning about the bike now. Been tryin to get out on her 2 or 3 times a week since in a variety of weathers (hmmm...not at all hard here!) to get a feel for riding and the bike. Learnt a few important lessons already too about the way she handles.
I know I'm still looking at the floor/kerb too much and not looking out of the corner when entering, so still working on this . Maybe because I've come at this older my self preservation is taking over too much. Had a couple of short rides with the wife on the back and that was different, but easy to cope with And her added weight allowed me to touch the floor with my feet flat.....couldn't tell her that tho!

Think I'm gonna change the tires for a set of Pirelli Rosso's. Any advice on how to get the shine off new tires, because I've already heard some real horror stories about first runs on brand new tires, so not keen on being a statistic .
I'm also after a better seat if anyone can help or point me in the right direction. I've had the stock seat shallowed out to compensate for my seemingly short legs, but whilst this was an improvement, I feel like I'm bein split in half now, so gotta find a solution.....surely I can't be the first with this problem?
Nungboy: Sorry, A8 isn't a typo, here in the UK for 2008 we were treated to Candy Glory Red, Black and Silver .

Thanks everyone for the welcome and your kind remarks.
Look forward to hearing from ya'll.

    Doug :2guns:
