I have a 2000 VFR 800 that I bought this summer. I drive mostly at highway speeds 100 mile to and from work with very little slow driving. One night I came home and was using the High beam a lot as traffic was light. When I drove the bike to my garage I turned it off to open the door and when I tried to start it the battery was stone dead. I pushed the bike into the garage and let it cool until morning when the bike came back to life. I brought it in for service ($500.00 oil change) and asked to have the alternator and battery checked. The mechanic said both were fine. On my next drive home during the day I almost made it home. About a mile from home the bike started missing badly so I geared down and drove at 3500 rpm. After a mile or so I had to make a right turn and when I pulled the clutch in and the engine RPM fell to idle the bike died. Unable to get it started I called a tow truck. A simple boost and I was able to drive the 100 yards to my home. I then replaced the battery and fully charged it. I did not have any problems until today coming from work. Drove the bile 50 miles at 4000 RPM lights and intrument panel all normal. Pulled into driveway let bike idle while I opened garage door and when I got on to drive it into the garage I forgot the kickstand. The bike died. I tried to start it and dead battery. The mechanic said the alternator was putting out the proper load, what would be a next look. The rectifier (which is fairly cheap) or a new alternator. Trouble shooting would be good as I hate replacing good parts. Does this bike had OBDII diagnosis or an ECU that can be checked for fault codes???ope2:
Get a multi meter and then download the diagnosis flowchart from ElectroSport Industries - Motorcycle, Dirt Bike and ATV Aftermarket Electrical Parts It will take you step by step to figure out what is going on with your electrical system. This should be a direct link. www.electrosport.com/technical-resources/library/diagnosis/fault-finding-guide.php
All signs & omens point to R/R. I had the same problems shortly after getting my bike. Search here for R/R problems. Enormous help to me.
