I'm a noob to this site. I have a 2001 VFR and I'm wondering if anyone else's bike emits heat from the sides, causing the innner thighs and part of the seat to get hot. On cool days it isn't uncomfortable, it's like having a heated seat, but on hot days, it makes for an uncomfortable ride. I'm new to the VFR since upgrading from an sv650 that didn't have this problem. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

anyone? 10 hits and no replies?

I wonder if it's just normal heat coming from the engine that i'm not used to because my other bike is a naked and doesn't generate the heat that the VFR does. From reading other threads, the VFR runs hot, but no one talks about the heat being uncomfortable. It might also be the frame because I clutch the frame with my legs to take the pressure off my wrists.

i sometimes experience the same thing, i would say it's perfectly normal. i wouldn't worry about it too much.
the radiators/fans are on either side of the bike and not in the front like on your SV650, so it would make sense to feel the heat more from the side of the engine.

Both my VFR and RC51 are like that. The cylinder bank right there under the seat as well as the side mounted radiators contribute to this.

Yes what you are experiencing is normal for a VFR. With a V4 engine and side mounted radiators, you will feel heat on either side of the bike. On my bike, the frame on the right side gets downright hot to the touch.

It's all part of the VFR experience.

Normal. I also have an '01 and mine does the ame thing. Especially on 100+ degree days when the water temp is in the 200's and the fan is running. To me it is most noticable when stopped at Red lights.

Hello, welcome, and PATIENCE young grasshopper! Even if your thread has hits, maybe not the right person to answer your question!

Any full fairing bike puts off a good amount of heat....both of my FZR's did. The Viffer seems like less so.....you're appreciate it on colder days! Just open her up, and make her into a naked street fighter! hahaha!

Your fan will kick on and blow some extra hot air on you as well.

The air is drawn in under the front cowl and get pushed out of the sides. Right on to your legs. So yes hot days are gonna get hotter on the VFR.

This is normal and one thing to add is because of the V4 design it does run hotter than I4 engines because they're more compact and therefore the heat gets more concentrated. On a 90+ degree day it's normal to see it get above 210 degrees and there's nothing much you can do about it other than putting distilled water in the radiator along with water wetter. Oh and to be on the safe side replace the thermostat every 2 or so years.

Many thanks all. Yeah it gets pretty hot at stop lights. I'm thinking it'll be nice during the winter. By the way, I'm really liking this site compared to other bike-specific sites I've been on.

    Cheers.

Yes, it is rare for a question to go unanswered...just have patience...see what happens? Lots of replies.
I also think it is normal. That is why I only where flip flops and a speedo...keeps me cooler!
Seriously...I use leathers or good mesh pants and even in 107 degree Tucson heat it is tolerable.

I read a recent review on a pipe wrap for the ST1300. The wrap insulated the pipes so more heat was exhausted making for a cooler ride. Sorry, don't remember which mag or month.

Wear some protective pants as this will help to deflect some of that heat for you...or get a 4 gen...never had the heat issue with mine :)

I ride a 86 VFR and it is warm as the heat comes out of the side panels just under my thighs .This is nothing compared to the heat that comes of of my 85 VF1000R which I have wired up with one fan on all the time to help keep it cool as all v4s that i have come across have run hot.I also ride in full leathers even when running around the okanagan which was 41 degrees last time i was there.

Relic Rider! Okanagan??!!! How cool! My sister lives across the border in Omak, WA (which is near the WA town of Okanagan). I have seen great pics of the Okanagan area of Canada and would love to explore it.
