Just curious if this is reasonable/close to average for this bike. I'm usually getting right around the 39-40mpg range on a couple of gallons of gas. I know the previous owner jetted the bike, and it has a 4 into 1 one piece exhaust, but beyond that I think the go parts are stock.

I know I'm comparing apples to oranges, but my wife's rebel gets nearly 90mpg even when going highway speeds and I figured I should be a little closer to 50-55mpg range, but maybe I'm just dreaming.

    Thanks!

I was getting about 40 - 45 on mine, until I jetted it, put on slip ons & changed the rear sproket. then it droped to low 30's. it SURE woke up the bike though. It was prolly way to fat, but I was young & dumb & did not care.

If your getting 40mpg's on a VF500, your doing something right!

Mine gets around 32mpgs in just normal driving and I don't even hit 6k on the tach.

I might get better gas mileage if I were to adjust my pilot screws properly :)

There's another thread somewhere about VF500 gas mileage. I took a trip a few weeks ago and over about 400 mi I averaged somewhere in the low 40's. Half of that was screaming on the highway at a steady 6-7k RPMs, half was in the twisties (but I'm new, so the twists could have been ridden much harder w/ more experienced rider, I'm sure).

Anyways word on the street is a VF500F in good condition should get no worse than 50 mpg...
