First, 10 points if you can name the movie that my title refers to.

Anyway, waiting for the weather to turn good here, just one more time this year for 7 days, so I can tackle a trip out to the Banff. Going to hit up the Rockies, leaving from and returning Whistler.

    Stole the route from here

If anybody wants to join let me know. If not, then you will all have to drool over my photo gallery when I return.

I am doing this one in luxury, choosing cheap motel beds, rather than the ground as my place to recharge the body.

"Dumb & Dumber" - a true cinematic artwork. That should be an awesome ride. And not to worry, John Denver knew what he was talking about!

Dammit! Beat me by 56 minutes!

Agreed that Dumb and Dumber is a cinematic masterpiece.

Lloyd: "I was thinking the same thing. That John Denver's full of shit, man."

I think I am getting as high as 9000 feet over the rockies. Will a carb'd VFR have any issues sucking in enough air?

Thanks all for the well wishes. Looking forward to it. Just waiting on the weather.

Awsome I did part of that ride 2 weeks ago.
Rode Red Deer, Sask crossing, Lake louse, banf, bragg creek, calgary, red deer in a day.

I do have one suggestion for you. at lake Louise look for a road called old banf coach road also called 1A.

it runs parallel to the trans canada but is full of some really really nice twisties. It rejoins the trans canada at banff.

I suggest looking at google earth as it shows it really well.

also for the park way, i believe up to 7 bikes can share the same pass. so if you see other bikers join up and split the cost.

Thanks for the suggestions and tips. I will certainly hit up 1A.

Anything else you can think of? What elevation is actually reached through the Rockies? Just wondering how cold its going to get.

I didnt know a park pass was needed. I will keep that in mind.

Planning to get to Kamloops the first day. Jasper the 2nd. Banff the 3rd. Nelson the 4th. Kelowna the 5th and then back to Whistler. Probably 300 miles a day. I want to take my time on this trip, taking lots of pictures, and stopping for all the good tourist areas.

Watch for wildlife! if you see brake lights slow down even if you don't think you need to.

The park way has a toll, you pay for a day pass. Multiple bikes get in on a pass some peope have a season's pass. It's like $20-30. Also be aware that you are unable to park within the park without a pass..for cars you need to display it in the window, i have no idea how they enforce that on bikes since multiples can get in on one pass. So would not worry about that. (not to sure on the details i've only used it a few times and often one of my buddies has a pass as he drives for a living.)

I never had an issue with temperature this time of year, it is neat when you go bye the ice fields you can feel it..but nothing to worry about.

Well there is lots of pull outs and such, often on a ride we will stop some where and go for a short hike somewhere...even just up a hill for a view. So bring some good shoes if thats your thing.

Um, i'd pack your own water as things in the park can be expensive as it is a tourist trap and items need to be brought in.

All sites are fairly well marked, and most have a path and often it is worth the walk around.
