I found the excerpt below in the latest Bike SA magazine (BikeSA - Home) and reworded it to remove all the South African vernacular which may have made understanding a little tough. I cannot say how much of the article is truth and how much is urban legend, but with the way things are going in Zimbabwe it's probably pretty close to true.....

One of the Bike SA journalists had been invited to the Giraffe Rally in Zimbabwe. He and a mate decided to brave the corruption at the border post and attend the rally. This is a story told to them by one of the local Zimbabwe bikers.

The bikers in question were on a breakfast run from Bulawayo and, because of the lack of traffic, rode everywhere at over 200kph. They were on their way to Plumtree when they were waved down by members of the Zimbabwean Traffic authorities. They had been clocked on a speed radar (which may last have been calibrated in 1990) at 220kph. With much muttering and head-scratching, the cops finally informed the bikers that the fine was the equivalent of ZAR30.00 (just over $4.00)!!

No flies on the biker Road Captain, he told the cops to fine them double because they would be coming back along that road in about half an hour at the same speed, and didn’t want to waste time stopping again!

The cops gleefully thanked the bikers and wrote out two tickets!! The bikers continued on to Plumtree, and half an hour later came tearing back past the cops at 250kph.

Having done their duty the cops were waiting for the return of the bikers and, as the bikers shot past, were jumping up and down in excitement, shouting encouragement and making ‘Go faster’ gestures!!!

    You gotta love Africa…..

    Hey Stranger

Nice to see another 'local' on this forum. Was starting to feel outnumbered. Now we're about even.

Molsan, I'm sure those gestures include handcuffs!!
