GP Shifting for 05' Pictures and Captions

Here's how I reversed the shift pattern for my bike. Hope it helps whomever wanted to do the same. Shifter assembly from a CBR929 and misc hardware from the local hardware store.
    01.JPG
The original setup. The shifter is directly attached to the shift rod.
    02.JPG
The foot peg mounting tabs and the main step holder is one piece.
    03.JPG
Used a Dremel with a cutting wheel to cut off the mounting tabs.
    04.JPG
Used the same cutting wheel to bevel a seat for the new peg/shifter mounting bracket.
    05.JPG
Cut out the backside to make room for washers for added support.
    06.JPG
Replaced the original bolt from the 01’ CBR929 part and bought a longer bolt to hold in the peg/shifter mounting bracket because of the added length.
    07.JPG
I reused my VFR peg instead of the CBR929 peg with the peg/shifter mounting bracket.
    08.JPG
Filled the backside gap with washers and a lock washer (not shown).
    09.JPG
Using the large washer to hold everything in place.
    10.JPG
Shortened the spring holder peg to move the spring closer to the inside because the spring rubs against the shifting bar.
    11.JPG
Used safety wire to move the bottom half of the spring towards the inside of the bike and then drilled a small hole and riveted a spacer to the side stand so it would hang lower giving the shifter room to move.
    12.JPG
Without the spacer the side stand and shifter would constantly rub together possibly causing it to jam.
    13.JPG
    …And finally the finished product!

I'm just wondering what the benefit is to doing this?

What are some of the benefits for doing a mod like this?

The biggest advantage for ME is that the 3 other bikes I own are GP style shifting and now they all match. The upshift now becomes the more positive shift since it's normally easier to press instead of pull. Another thing I like is that I can keep my foot at a ready position and upshift in a hard left turn without draging my foot. And definitely it's rider's choice. It's a lot of work to do the change and once you do it the way I did, there's no going back unless you buy a new bracket. If that wasn't enough, there's some articles I read on the internet and in some magazines about it.

Cool write-up. Looks like a job well done.

Not for me though... I doubt I could reprogram my left foot to working in reverse!
