Chain Adjustment

Have a 93 VFR new to this single sided swing arm. How do you adjust the chain?

 

The bolt you loosen first is located at the very rear of the swing arm. The eccentric hub he is referring to is the gear looking thing on the right side of the swing arm.

If this will help anybody, it is possible to adjust the chain without the tool kit. I didn't get one with my bike, and I haven't bought one yet, but I probably will.
I'm not necessarily recommending it, but here's what I did: I had studied the shop manual, to understand how the eccentric hub adjustment worked. With the bike on the centerstand, I loosened the pinch bolt, and put pentrating oil around the adjuster ring. (not sure it needed it, but just wanted to make it easy). I took an allen/hex head wrench and put the end against against one of the teeth of the adjuster ring, and gently tapped on the "L" end. A punch with a flat end would work, too. Slighly firm taps, but gentle. It moved the adjuster ring, and the chain gradually tightened. Didn't mar or dent the ring at all. I re-tightened the pinch bolt, cleaned and lubed the chain, and all is well. Like I said, I'm not recommending it, but if you don't have the spanner wrench, all is not lost. The key is to be gentle and not bang up the adjustment ring.

 

You can turn the clinch nut, it will also turn the eccentric hub. Retighten axle nut, all good!
