ATTN Eugene/Springfield VFR's! HELP NEEDED!

Help! I'm a Bay Area rider in Eugene and I'm in a bit of a pickle. I rode about 630 miles yesterday to get here and I noticed when I got here it was making an odd noise at low rev's. After a brief check I found my chain was so loose it was resting on the center stand.

Here's my problem, when I bought this bike a couple of months ago, it didn't come with the factory tools. According to the FSM I need a special tool to adjust the chain tension. I don't have one at home, or up here.

If there is ANYONE in the area who has the tool I need, and the maybe 5-10 minutes to walk me thru it, I would be beyond happy. If no one can help, I will have to find a local Honda dealer and buy one. (I plan to do that when I get home, but if I have to now, what can I do)

On my VFR I can put it onto the center stand, loosen the bolt, and shake & spin the wheel and the chain will tighten or loosen with out the spanner wrench, if that doesn't work I'd try to sweet talk the service manager and temporally borrow the spanner wrench for 5 minutes...

 

I'll be swinging by the Honda dealer in Eugene in the morning, but I would feel better if I didn't have to ride over there with a sloppy chain.

 

All I managed to do is loosen it even more. I'll need the fancy tool.

 

Okay, I'm officially counting on the kindness of strangers. None of the local dealers or shops have one of the tools for sale, and none of them are willing to let me borrow the tool for 15 minutes and do it here at the house.

Another thing you could do is use a punch or screw driver and tap with a hammer on the teeth where the spanner wrench would grab to rotate. Once you loosen the pinch bolt (19mm socket I think) about 3-4 turns or use a cresent wrench. It should adjust quite easily. Then retighten the pinch bolt to 54 ft lbs. if possible or just get tight by hand. When you loosen it, you can get a feel for how tight it was..... This is my suggestion, and only requires basic tools.

 

And I have the tool! I could cruiz your way Friday night after work. I get off at 5 and could be ther around 6:00-6:30 Let me know.

I had to punch/hammer it. Took me a while to dig a hammer up, but problems solved until I get back to the Bay.
