    Dude,
its true that the VFR is an expensive bike. When I went to the dealers, I found that I can get an '08 CBR1000RR for the same price. But common sense tells me that I won't be too happy with the CBR when I need to travel long distance coupled with hours on the saddle. For an all rounder, it's a good deal and my intuitions were confirmed when I made my first 700-miles trip. Nimble, powerful, great in the twisties & most of all, comfy. Very practical bike.... And the funny thing is that I get more attention at the lights than when I was on my old Blackbird. The styling rocks....!

But perhaps you should scout around and get the best price since the bike is rather dated?

Great participation guys! I was mad a few days ago about the price, now I am much more comfortable with it. My son was suprised with my decision. He's inexperienced and hasn't had to live with regret a large purchase yet, so he cant relate. Besides, as you know I owned an 83 VF750F way back then and just recently re-aquired one. The VFR 25th model is perfect for a guy like me. Faithful to the Interceptor to the end.

The Kawasaki 650 Ninja really has nothing special about it. Its just another bike. It wouldn't turn any heads. But the Interceptor would be a different story. even having two Ninja's wont do it.

Posting here really helped me. Thank you all for your input.

Agree, the one thing I have always loved about VFR's is their appearance of being hone carfully out a lump of solid metal.

Just hours ago was halted at an large intersection when a Pannier equiped Candy Glory Red '07 6th Gen wafted across my path very polished with the calming air of total quality, a characteristic the Triumph ST or ZZR14 in my opinion just doesn't seem to radiate.

I just purchased the 08 VFR. I have looked and looked at several bikes and keep coming back to the VFR. I was wanting the BMW, Kawi concours or the VFR. The BMW was out of my league, so it was down to the VFR VS concours.
The VFR was $9700 and the Concours was 11,600.00. For $1900.00 more I could of got 500 more cc's. I came in here reading post after post about the VFR and 98% of it was real stuff Good or Bad about the VFR. I asked myself two question's. 1. How often I would I go on a long tour? 1 time a year If I'm lucky.
    2. Do I want a bear (concours) to ride around central and NW Arkansas? which is were I'll be most of the time. NO

So I picked the VFR and so far I have 50 miles on it. I can't wait for the roads to dry up today so I can get on it and ride.

Thanks, for all your post on this forum. I think all of you helped me make the right decision.

Ok, I have 4,200 miles on it and love this bike. Handles in the corners with ease and has lots of power. The stock seat has got to go, so I'm waiting for my Sargent to come in. Lots of people comment on the bike. I have compared over all finish to many other manufactures of bikes and Honda wins hands down. I'm totally Impressed with the performance of this machine.

I didn't pay full price for my '06 and I bought it new. It depends on the dealer.

Hondas in general are somewhat expensive. You're paying for the build quality, solid resale value, and top notch engineering. Honda sportbikes aren't meant to compete with Hyosungs nor are they really starter bikes like the twin-cylinder Ninjas.

We would all like to pay less for everything, but clearly Honda's pricing scheme works for them and their bikes sell just fine. This is capitalism at its finest.

Special thing about the VFR for me is the engine. Swiss watch build quality.

You know you have something special when you take it to the Honda dealer for it's service and when you pick it up the guy behind the desk says "all the guys have been looking over your bike- never seen one in such good condition - we all love Viffers" (I have a 20k mile 96 750.)

Mine second hand was more expensive than many other bikes - but the build quality tells. 12 years old and with a polish could pass for a couple of years old. I'm sure your new one will be the same - though we know that development peaked with the 4th gen! ;-)

    er...

    Hah ! I call :bs:

No wonder you're skint if your arithmetic is that shaky..

    $16005 NZ$ is equivalent to :

    11,123.07994 US dollars
    5,854.64776 British pounds

0.69498 US dollar per New Zealand dollar

In other words your price is £1136 CHEAPER than the UK price ,
thats 3,108.05080 New Zealand dollars less...

Whoops!!!!! Yeah read that again just after I posted it and wondered how long it would take before someone picked up the BooBoo.
The fact remains that universally VFR"s seam to be priced way above any of their competitors of a similar nature and Mr Honda obviously doesn't wonder why so many of his dealers refuse to carry a new VFR in stock,

This is true they are not exactly selling like hot cakes.
But that has a lot to do with marketing and what the salesmen actually do.

there pushing the performace... why get an 800 well made bike when you could get a 1000 with 1.5x as much power and maybe not practical.

+1 Ninja 650, GS500F and some others are basic starter bikes, not in anyway in the same class. Like comparing a 70s CB350 Honda twin to the CB750 Four.
