i would have to agree. i would rather have a crotch rocket rather than a HOG.
the terms really dont bother me. i would ride a harley if someone wanted to buy me a new one, i wouldn't spend that much money on a motorcycle that has a kind of old type styling to me. i however would mind being able to afford a big dog. i just shrug off the derogatory comments. i bought what i liked and could afford, besides its not like i'm asking them to ride it so i don't care. i think there is always going to be the sport bike vs. cruiser controversy for years to come.
besides if you were telling some hot girl what u had i would rather tell her i have a crotch rocket rather than a hog:tongue:

The reason i dislike the crotch rocket denotation is crotch rocket is essentially a term for squid bike. In many people's eyes if you ride a crotch rocket your a squid.
Any distance i can put between myself and squids is good.

as for harley's, it all in good fun. I wave, they wave back..almost never get snobed up here.

Yes, this has happened to me many times. It even happens when I'm teaching MSF classes. What's really sad is 90% of the time, the moron in question can barely turn a bike around in a parking lot or needs to do a Voodoo ceremony to get their POS to start on the first try. Since I'm from NJ & therefore it is ingrained into my DNA that I be as offensive as possible, I usually insult them back. If the person in question is also from NJ, that usually ends the exchange since that's simply how NJ people operate. If the person is not from NJ, they usually give up once they realize they can't intimidate me.

In my MSF classes, unless the person can ride, I don't let them run their mouths for even 5 seconds. Even if they can ride I usually only tolerate it for about 23 seconds.

Another issue I have, why is it that it's ALWAYS, that's right 100% of the time, ALWAYS the HD jackasses that spew this crap first? I can honestly say, I never see riders on "foreign" bikes going up to and insulting HD riders & their bikes. It's always the HD assclowns who start this crap. When I hear the pleas of "Can't we all just get along?", I have no problem with that. By all means get the word out to the Orange & Black cult members so we can do just that.

    KC-10 FE out...

Well im leaving for sturgis in two days, so I will have some input on this topic but right now nothing. Hope I don't get beat up for my black and red honda jacket. That might get me in more trouble then the bike. Who knows, its my first time out there and I will enjoy it anyways. Lots of riding, first time out there on a bike, many times out there(not rally time) in a car and on vacation.

i feel another long HD bashing thread coming on. wasn't there one not so long ago?

there seems to be two types of Harley riders those that ride them. their bikes are the ones leaking oil profusely and those that wheel them out of their garages to polish them and shoot the shit over a beer
I wouldn't trade my Tupperware bike for one of those unless i decide to give up riding and take up polishing chrome

Your last paragraph hits it on the head KC.

In Delaware, in my experiance, its the same thing. Even when I am coaching an MSF class and I pull up on the 97 there is always a HD wannabe who talks crap to me. And its not a good natured ribbing, its a full on hate session...WTH? Its a bit unwise to attack your coach for the weekend, but go ahead if you must.

It must be a cultural thing that is different depending upon were one lives. Seems the Canadian riders are more mellow and maybe Washington state too. When I lived in the DC Metro area from 1997 to 2003 the squids were the worst. If you didn't have an 1000cc sport bike and ride like a maniac they were tools to you. I did get snubbed by HD riders, but they often would talk to you and chat about were your riding to, from, etc. The squids, forget it.

I get out in Delaware and man the HD crowd is awful. The only HD owners I've had be respectful and fun to talk to are my fellow Rider Coaches who own them. That's it.

I'm with ya KC, we can all get along when the HD cult stops going out of its way talking crap to me everytime I pull into a gas station, store, resturante...

wow... i'm surprised and embarassed that HD guys go out of their way to talk crap to you guys. one of my good friends owns a v-twin bike shop and i spend a good deal of time hanging out there. the lot always has harley's in it, and i park my vfr in the middle of them all. i've yet to have anyone talk crap to me. 'course i'm a big, mean looking SOB. ; ) seriously though, i think the HD crowd can be (mostly) broken into two groups: the intelligent, white collar types and the redneck blue collar types. (not to stereotype either group). i know some of each. it's the latter that i can see being a-holes. ignorance is the root of prejudice. closed-mindedness and the refusal to expand knowledge perpetuates it. bummer. playing devil's advocate, though, i think there are two groups of 'crotch rocket' riders (a group which vfr riders are apparently lumped into) as well. the responsible crowd, and the young and insane crowd. you've seen the guys... weaving in and out of highway traffic at breakneck speeds, riding wheelies down the main drag. you get my point... not everyone who rides a harley is an a-hole, not everyone who rides a 'crotch rocket' is a punk. in fact, dare i say it, there are rebelious similarities in both those groups... lol

Dude, you will have a blast...ignore all that you read. I went in 2006 on my 2005 Red VFR they know your not a HD from about 5 miles away. And people could not have been nicer, even got invited to dinner's and lunches. It was awsome, there is a genuine rider fellowship, especially for those that ride. Maybe the Alberta plates helped.
But it was awsome and i was blown away by how friendly people where. Far from the expected hard time or cold shoulder i was greated by intrested and kind people.
My advice...spend at least one night in buffalo chip...
also if doing the needles do it backwards and first first first thing in the morning and watch for wildlife.

Too much hate in this thread. Sure, there are HD guys who are a-holes, squids that are a-holes, knee draggers who are a-holes, SUV drivers that are a-holes, hell, maybe we all are a-holes and we just don't realize it??? My point is, there are going to be haters on any type of bike. Maybe they are just jealous? Just enjoy your bike, enjoy your life, and ride, ride, ride!

Unfortunately, this thread is turning into another "I hate Harley" thread which caused a motherlode of controversy and complaints.....and the complaints are starting to come in about this one as well. Not to mention, we have quite a few members who own HD's and are plenty happy with them as well. As long as you are happy with your bike, the rest shouldn't really matter.

    El locko...
