Time to get the seals done. The shop charges way less if you take the forks off the bike for them. So, me being the cheap ass that I am...
I am a dummy. Dummies can do this with the tools that Honda provided in the standard 5th gen tool kit(plus a pair of hemostats).
I shall now show you how.
    Step 1. Open drawer.
    Step 2. Remove fork.
    see how simple that was?

    OK. No more screwing around.
Step 1. Place bike on center stand. Weigh down rear end to keep front off ground.
    Step 2. Remove front fender.
Step 3. Remove brake assemblies. Remember to hang them with something so the hoses don't stretch.
    Step 4. Loosen front lug.
Step 5. Remove front axle. Slide the phillips screwdriver through the holes and twist while pulling.
Step 5. Remove brake line crossovers. One bolt on right and 2 on left.
These 2 are kinda hard to get to, so use an open end.
Step 6. Loosen clip on bolts.
Step 7. Remove snap rings. These are flimsy so a pair of hemostats opening will spread them enough to remove.
Step 8. Remove clip ons. I used a rag to protect the fairing.
Step 9. Measure fork height. I measured from the top clamp to the snap ring.
Step 10. Loosen top clamp bolts.
Step 11. Loosen lower clamp bolts.
    Step 12. Remove fork.

And the forks are out. Easy Peasy.

Drewl - you forker... ok what weight did you use on the rear to get the front wheel in the air? Um - gotta throw in to watch your rear and if you have a front stand that goes under the steering head - use that.

No socket wrenches? Breaker bar on the front axle nut? Metric scale or caliper? Sorry, had to ask.
What say you oh great forker one?

The only tools used were the ones Father Honda provided. Sometimes I had to put a couple together to cheat a little.
The weight on the rear is ugly--cinder blocks and bunjie cords-don't try this at home kids.
From here the forks go to the shop for new seals and oil.

Ok - geek alert.... or gearhead, take your pick.

Um- maybe a torque wrench may come in useful on reassembly....

Um#2 - Scares me, maybe a front stand would be a lot better.

    Good luck,
    MD

Yes, re-assembly is a whole nother thread. A torque wrench will ensure the forks don't slide up and bash me in the face the first time I try and stop.
I told ya it was ugly. The idea for a front end stand is a very good one.

    Nice going.

Been wanting to swap out to stiffer springs on mine and thought it was way more complicated than this.

Is it just me or is that brake fluid toast?
