I had been smelling a strong odor of gas leaking from underneath my vf500 fuel tank and thought a hose connecting to the fuel valve might be loose. I took the tank off and added a stainless clamp to the fuel line. When I put the tank back on and started the bike up it turned right over and was running but gas was pouring, I MEAN POURING, all over the engine and onto the floor of my shed. I immediately shut off the bike, took the tank off again and noticed a hose not connected right underneath the air cleaner box. The hose that fell off is located right near another hose splitter that goes from a single hose to two. All this is right near the fuel valve. I think the hose might connect to a cylinder head. Gas was not only spraying out from under the tank but the little hose on the rear break side that is supposed to have a drain plug, seen here:025.jpg - Image - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting was also pouring out gas. I put the bike on the center stand and it leaked out more gas from the tube. I then rocked it back and forth to try to get the remaining gas out. Can anyone explain what I did and how much of a problem it is?

I had a similar problem recently after removing my tank to repair it. Anytime I started the Bike it would pour gas.

I took the tank back off, made sure all the clamps were good, made sure all the hose were attached properly and then reattached everything. (Making sure all hoses were all the way on and secure)

    Bike stopped pouring after that.

I really can't tell you why the PCV drain tube was leaking gas, but it still sounds like a simple problem. Somewhere between the tank and the carbs, a fuel line is broken and/or disconnected. Remove the gas tank, make sure the line going to the carbs is still okay (it has a Y-connector in it), and then make sure that the end connected to the gas tank a) doesn't have any splits in it and b) still has the spring clip. Then just put the tank back on, make sure the spring clip is on properly, and you should be okay!

there is also a plastic tube that looks like a Z between the 2 middle carbs. Make sure the fuel is not coming from there when the bike is running. If the bike is not running, no fuel should come out of there. Any leaks from that tube will only be evident when the bike is running!

Put all the hoses on, and turn the fuel...not the bike. What does it do??
