So I changed the gearing on the 92 VFR (love it -1/+2) over the winter, unfortunately my speedo is now reading about 10-12% too high (I will verify with GPS, but I know it’s high). Do you know any companies that make the gearbox to “gear down” the speedo cable? Everything out there is electronic and mine is old skool.

    thx

I thought that the speedohealer works with pretty most bikes.

it works great if you have an electronic speedo (gen 4 and up)... gen 3 is a MECHANICAL one.

I thought there was a mech to electronic adapter available for the 'healer'. I must be not remembering correctly. If there isn't, then about the only other option it to get a computer like the Trail Tech Endurance (can be purchased at riderwarehouse.com). It uses a magnetic pickup and magnet to read road speed. It is pretty easy to calibrate, but it has no constant back lighting for use at night. You have to puch a button to light it up for all of a few seconds. That was my only dislike about it.

Yeah, whoops, sorry. I was getting mixed up. It works with both analog and digital speedos if they are electric. :fish:

On my third gen when I put the 50 tooth sprocket on the back I just bought a very basic (less than $10) bicycle speedometer and mounted it up on the front fork/wheel; IIRC it is a Filzer DB4 that I got at Mountain Equipment Co-op, but any bike store should have a cheap equivalent version. It was only good to 99 MPH, but after that point who's counting anyways?? It is easily calibrated by marking, rolling and measuring your wheel diameter on the ground, very accurate, and after I got used to checking it against the indicated speed for awhile I just got so I did the quick adjustment in my head. The surprising thing when I compared speeds with a buddy on a stock NT650 Hawk was how much his bike was off with stock gearing and stock tire sizes - reading almost 10% higher than actual, so you may find that you're reading higher (and going slower) than you expect given the change.

thats absolutely the case. frankly, i dont care much about how fast I am going, I am trying to avoid putting 12% extra miles on the ODO every time I get on it. My GPS has a speedo if I care to see how fast I am going... I am going to send it to get an internal recal.
