Sorry MD. Didn't mean to get your panties in a bunch. I'm as hard on the twisties as the next guy. I've ridden the Hocking hills and the Triple Nickle. I know SE Ohio has some great roads. But I've decided what I consider important and that's making it home safely at the end of a ride. :vader:

There's a great guy over on the ZRXOA board with some awesome pictures of himself dragging a knee around some twisties. The next group of photos is his bike wadded up from a patch of dirt he hit. Not worth it to me. If it is to you, then have fun.

I'm helping my younger brother put an 85 VFR500 as his first bike, that's why I'm on your forum. Didn't mean to threaten you with my bikes superior power and handling. :party2:

Kidding. I thought forums were meant for discussions. Not blindly agreeing with other people opinions.

You can drag a knee on anything with enough balls. Do a youtube search for Yellow wolf riding his goldwing on Deal's Gap.

Oh, and by the way, of course I watch MotoGP, the AMA and all that. If your riding position is good and you're that fast, then dragging a knee is the end result NOT THE GOAL. If you can't understand that, then good luck. Smooth and controlled is fast, not throwing the bike over and sliding so far off the seat that your knee hits the ground.

Well, I don't know about you but I'd rather have a knee out than be scraping the footpegs. With scraping the footpegs the bike is teetering on the edge and can be quite scary.

One thing that I think has to be clarified is that there's a difference between having your knee out and just plain dragging your knee, making contact with the pavement. Having the knee out shifts weight and allows you to make turns without having to lean waaaay over.

Dragging your knee just for the sake of it can be quite stupid and dangerous.

People that follow me tell me that I dont look like I'm working all that hard in the twists and just smooth. Yes riding well, smooth and swiftly is the way to go. Lots of the time, that requires that you get your butt off the seat and hang on the inside of the bike. Then, sometimes that includes if I have decent vision of the turn, I may even decide to get a knee down for fun. I never said it was the goal. I dont have to but sometimes I want to. (Yes- obviously at track speeds with good form will bring the knee down more often.) I only do this kind of stuff on deserted backroads and no traffic. Hell, I purpose built my 5th gen for this activity.

Seems like in my group rides I lead because most of the time it seems I'm quickest in the twists and I admit - I do like to set the pace. Then again, I am way past worrying whose quicker or not, I ride for me. If your not lining up in the motoGP grid, somebody is always gonna be faster than you.

BTW the last time I rode the triple nickle with a merry band of riders we had to pull the Zrex rider out of the weeds.

Well, it sounds like you're perfectly aware that you could drag a knee if you want, so it seems like this whole thread is rhetorical.

I don't put my knee down. I definitely shift my weight and can keep up with the best of them. There are a lot of riders out there faster then me I'm sure.

As long as we all ride our own ride and have fun doing it, what more can you ask for.

Maybe the next time I'm out in Columbus we can take a ride.
