First: ME? KTM Adventure jacket (textile) and Triumph textile pants, Sidi Vertigo Air boots, Sokz socks, various gloves, Icon Domain helmet. And I get HOT but I feel relatively safe.

Second: Jonboymd: how did that cloverleaf crash happen? What took you down?

Aerostitch sells wash-in water repellent. Have not tried it but I think it's only $8 or so a bottle.

Thanks. I will keep this product in mind. Right now it is relatively dry here so won't be able to try it. Having said this, the manufacturer of the clothing or material applies something to it to make it as weather proof as it is new. There must be something out there that will bring it back to its new state. I have been messaging back and forth with Joe Rocket so I might have an answer soon. And of course I will post.

Stuka, the Black Label is leather. It rides low on the waist and is fairly stiff to prevent ride ups.

I don't know if this will work on riding gear, but Nik-Wax makes spray on as well as wash in water proofing additives.

Works on everything that I've ever used it on: Suede/Mesh hiking boots, Gore Tex material, canvas, etc.

For those applications, I think its great. But again, have no idea how it will take.

I've used NikWax products. They work fine. They do have a potent reek after application until they cure.

I've been riding with a Joe Rocket mesh jacket since I started riding about two months ago. I'm in SE Virginia and it's 90-95 and very humid. I have to ride home from work in heavy traffic so the stop and go is obviously bad, but as soon as I get moving I'm just fine. I wear jeans every day and some mesh/leather gloves. Today I tried out a perforated leather jacket by Joe Rocket with Honda stuff on it that i got on newenough.com. It was nearly as comfortable as riding with the textile jacket. I won't be wearing the textile unless i'm riding my FZ6 because it has YAMAHA across the front and back, and then only if it's in the city. I'd just rather have the leather over the comfort.

I have an Icon Field Armor vest that I wear just over a t-shirt. I also usually wear gloves, and some high-tops. The vest is fairly protective, and its much less hot when I'm at stop lights/in traffic because it doesn't have sleeves. When I'm out on the highway and I know that I'm gonna stay moving, I just wear my AlpineStars leather jacket, it's perforated, and I don't get that hot when I've got the air flowing through it.

    Derstuka,

Drylete is Hind's wick away clothing line. I use the term generically for all moisture wicking clothing.

I understtand this very well, and I have to say, I fall into the same camp you are in, be it good or bad, it is what I do.

And interestingly enough, same thing from an opposite point of view, I have become aware of the fact that I ride harder and push much more in the spring and fall when it is cool out, and I'm dressed in leather pants and jacket.

I cannot say enough good things about the Nike Dry-FIT product line. As I have gotten older I have started to try and limit my exposure to the sun, and when it comes to sun screen, I'm really bad about it, I hate the oily feeling. I have found I stay cooler in an oversized white long sleeve Dry-FIT shirt than a short sleeved cotton T when I'm in direct sunlight.

Well up until 7/15 I wore protection according to my riding style. That all changed because I was wearing the t-shirt jeans and gloves outfit and out for a short ride. I hit a big dip going around a curve, caught some air and flipped the bike at about 40-50 MPH. Currently I'm healing up a fractured wrist, ankle and pulled back muscle. I also have this to deal w/ it's much better now but the last 2 weeks haven't been fun.

I'll be getting a new helmet, gloves, purchasing pants and wearing them and my jacket as soon as I get my bike back in order and my bones heal. The Alipine Stars SMX Gloves worked beautifully :)

I wonder what it would be like to ride "over here"? The hottest I've seen it 51C which is, ready for this? 51 X 1.8 + 32 = 123.8F Considering VFR's run hot to begin with, I wonder how they would react to temp extremes like this?

    KC-10 FE out...

I am going to admit that I shop at wal-mart and ask the rest of you imbrace your inner redneck also. They sell athletic works clothing line that is just a shade thiner that Underarmors Heat line or summer line or what ever they call it this year. The Athletic works under wear were $10 and the long sleeve shirt was around $15. I have used both in Mojave Desert and on the Coast of North Carolina.

Perfect post _oxygen_. Really I hope it convinces at least one of us to NEVER ride with out a 100% CE approved suit (top, bottom, gloves, boots) Like I have learned the hard way when I was lucky enough like you to be able to ride again and learned the hard way my hide/health is worth spending the $$$$ on a good suit and always ride with it after I crashed and didn't think I needed good protection. This is the basics

sorry to hear about your crash oxygen,
broken bones do suck, mine are healing after 4 weeks. not to add insult to injury but it sounds like the biggest difference in in our crashes is the amount of roadrash. Good luck with the healing process

Usually my hot weather set up is Alpinestars track pants, Icon TiMax II textile (sans liner), Teknic gloves, Smart Wool socks, Sidi Corsa's and HJC helmet with all the vents fully open.

I wore full leathers last weekend on a 200 mile ride in 85-90 degree heat. I had them made with fully perfed and vented crotch area so they were actually pretty comfortable, the only hard part was getting myself peeled out of them after the ride. ( I think i've figured out how Houdini and those guys can get out of a straightjacket..... )

I only ride recreationally and lane splitting is legal in CA, so I don't spend much time sitting still in traffic. Even at 90+ it's still comfortable, warm but not unbearable. The above pictures are a good reminder that it's never really that hot out.........

Wear the Underarmor and your leathers will just about fall off. First time I wore my 1 pc at the track I didn't wear any underarmor. After trying to get out of them for 10 minutes, I went to another pit and had a a fellow racer help me yank my leathers off. I bought some UA that day and now I can just shrug and shake my leathers off.
