Sorry, meant to type 'quits running', but you probably knew that. I have had this problem several times now. I leave a light, wide it up in several gears, and the motor quits completely, I know because the lights are on the dash. I pull in the clutch, hit the starter, it starts right up and I continue on. Any ideas what this could be? Just had a battery replaced due to a no start situation and the bike was thoroughly checked out regarding the electrics. Weird.....

Have you had the electrical recal done on your bike?
also what gear or what speed? any consistency at all?
Assume it is silent and no grinding thus an ellectrical problem.

I don't know at all for sure...but if the side stand switch were somehow cutting out I think it might cause that?

I agree with porcupine. I have seen the side stand cause this problem on a few other bikes that friends have had.

I had mine shut off once on the freeway before, the FI light was stuck on so i pulled over and it started right back. I took it to the dealer and they did the wiring harness upgrade/ ac generator upgrade. never did it again have you had the recalls done?

Thanks for the replys guys. Yes the dealer recall was done. It had done this once before and I had a problem where it wouldnt start and left me stranded. It turned out that even though the battery had shown full charge it had an internal problem where it couldnt supply enough power to start the bike. I had it changed at the dealer and they checked over the electrical system and said everything was A OK.

When you say the side stand, what is going on; the sensor is bad or are we saying the sidestand is coming down slightly? As I say, the light comes on the dash and I can tell the bike has completely shut down but hitting the starter and it immediately fires right up.

Too much technology and wiring on this bike for me I am afraid. Give me carbs again and get rid of the computor and most of the wiring.

The side stand switch prevents the bike from being operated when in gear and the stand is down. On many bikes, chain lube can deposit in large quantities over time around that area causing a bad connection, or preventing the side stand from folding up just far enough that on a nice bounce it could move down just enough to engage the switch. Best bet is to try cleaning everything up around it first with some brake cleaner or equivalent degreaser that will not attack the plastic bits.

Come to think of it, my RWB has done this same thing a few times. It just quits then will start right back up and run just fine. I don't think it it's the side stand on my bike. It's has only done this a couple of times, so I haven't worried about it much.

Cleaned the switch thoroughly now with contact cleaner. I am trying to understand how the switch works. Its not the cheap button type; it appears that internally the position of the stand is affecting the switch mechanism so I am not sure how build up on the outside can affect it. the stand seems very solid also. I have to say I dont think this has anything to do with the problem. Flat roads in FL its not a bump causing this. I think its some kind of electrical gremlin. Engine stop switch linked to the fuel injection?

I was thinking maybe an easy side stand test would be to get the bike idling, pull clutch in, put in 1st, then maybe wiggle the side stand a little bit in and out up and down and see if it cuts out while doing that. Could also try a similar test with the emergency shutoff button, just pushing it slightly in not far enoguh to make it switch just to see if that does anything. I don't know if any of this is your issue or if it helps these are just some things I was htinking.

    R&r

Hey guys, been reading about all the RR problems everyone has encountered. Question is, I have an 06 with approx 1800 miles on it. I've had the bike now going on four weeks. Can I expect this problem to bite me in the butt down the road or has Honda got a fix on this in their later models? Where bouts is this R&R located?
