Today I got the Fi warning light while on the interstate. I have an 04 VFR 4300 miles and no mods. It was a pretty hot day.(about 95F)

I rode about 45 mile on the interstate at about 85-115mph and the bike temp was at 200-210 degrees the entire time. I then stopped (shut off the engine) for 10 minutes and jumped back on the interstate and about 3 miles later I was doing about 105mph and felt the v-tech engage, happened to look down and the Fi light was on. The bike temp was only 190 degrees.

The engine was running fine. No sputtering, hesitation, loss of power, nothing. The only thing different about the bike was that that light was on.

I stopped at the next exit; shut the engine off for 10 seconds(just long enough to say a quick prayer :pope2:. The engine started just fine. The light came on as normal when the key was turned on and went out when it was supposed to.

I rode the last 20 miles home with out incident. Has this ever happened to anyone or have any ideas why this might happened. Any and all input is greatly appreciated.

The first thing to do is find out if a malfunction code was left in the memory. First remove the upper right side cowl cover. At the bottom of the fuse block you will find a red covered connector, remove cover. Turn the ignition switch off. In the connector you will find 4 pin slots. Place a jumper wire between the green wire and brown wire slots. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and the engine stop switch to the RUN position. If the ECM has no self diagnosis memory data, the FI light will illuminate and stay illuminated. If the ECM has self diagnosis memory data, the FI light will start blinking when you turn the ignition switch ON. Note how many time the FI light blinks. When more than one failure occurs, the FI light shows blinks in order of lowest number to the highest number. Now let us know what you find.

    +1 the above reply.
If no codes are found, my guess is the engine was starting to go into a vapor lock condition caused by the high air temp and hard running.

My first thought was vapor lock since I think it came on when the v-tech engage(higher fuel demand). Won't be home for 4 days but will try checking the code when I get back. thanks for the suggestion.
