Really frustrated. I changed the oil, adjusted the chain, and took some slack out of the throttle cable. Since then I have had a vibration in the bike. Feels worst at about 35-40 mph with steady throttle. Had a good pro mechanic (Ducati and metric bikes) look at. He checked the chain and test rode it. Only thing he can find is some scalloping in the front tire. Bike only has 5500 miles. I think I had the chain to tight, as the level of vibration decreased after readjusting.

    Any ideas?

Both tires the original OEm's? If your chain is too tight it limits suspension travel, should have about an inch of travel.

Sounds like the chain was too tight to me.

Now the chain is on the edge of loose, but the vibration persists

Think I could have damaged the chain? No apparent physical signs:unsure::unsure:

I've been through the chain thing myself trying to eliminate a vibration and there is in fact a correlation between the chain tension and vibrations with this bike. You didn't cause any damage, don't sweat it.

One other thing to consider: What was your previous bike? You may still be adjusting to the VFR's, 'er, characterstics? I only say this because I had a Blackbird that was silky smooth every RPM prior to buying the VFR. I spent the better part of 5-6000 miles looking for vibrations, etc. 20,000 miles later I don't even pay attention

Well I have had the 07 since March of 2007, 5500 miles. This vibration was right after I did the maintenance. But I know what you mean about previous bike, I was riding a 93 CBR1000F, real smooth.

Did you change the grips? Loose a bar-end? Maybe you need your Starter Valves synchronized?

I don't know, I am pulling stuff out of my :ass: again....

LOL, you just wanted to use the :ass: Icon! :spam: On a serious note at 5500 miles it could be the front tire. Did you replace the rear and not the front?

No tire changes...I bought the bike brand new in March 2007 and have put 5500 miles on it.

Sounds about all those OEM's are good for, even if they still look good. The stock forks are not the best for this front heavy bike. I am working on my preload adjustment to find a happy medium at the moment. I have felt some issues with different adjustments with the front trying to steer the bike left and right when it hits uneven pavement. Once I set my SAGS proper and rebound on the rear shock I will post a suspension thread on how it turned out. Did you get the first service done and have everything torqued by a shop you trust to do the work? Because its very unlikely that its anything other than tire wear on an 07.

Another thing you might check, after one of my oil changes I put to much oil in the crank case. It was past the top of glass when on the center stand. Not only did the bike seem to vibrate more it also didn't shift as smooth. I went ahead and removed the excess oil and all was well agian. Hope this helps.
