If it's REALLY hot I wear my dirt bike gear. Dirt helmet, chest, shoulder, back protecter, elbow/forearm pads, knee/shin guards, boots and a SPEEDO. Looks retarded like something out of Mad Max but, function over fashion.:strong:

I ride with a denim-Levis jacket then leather when it gets cooler/cold. Leather is the best period. At one time the demim was second best. Years back Cycle mag did a slide test to rate protection of materials. They found with the synthetics they would melt and stick to the skin. May be that's why they have the armor stuff in them to keep the outer layer from sticking to you. It can take more of a beating in specific areas before getting to the melting point. I used to ride with just a T-shirt in hot weather. That was before I almost ran in to a hughe buzzard eating road kill in a curve on a gravel type road. We came within inches, literally, from colliding when it took flight right at me. All that flashed before my eyes was 750, feathers and me all over the road. That gravel road straighted me out. I've seen bad road rash and it ain't purddy!

Oh yea helmet, boots, leather gloves and Levis pants are standard equipment.

Those who don't wear protection are know as "cycle-donors" If there are any parts left to use after the accident.

I've gown down in jeans and a sweatshirt and have an impressive set of scars to show for it. My hot weather gear is a Revit mesh jacket, Aerostich Darien pants over Forcefield strap-on knee protectors, Alpinestars dirt gloves and regular boots. The jacket has great airflow and I can wear shorts under the Darien pants and shed the overpants when I get where I'm going.

A 1920's leather football helmet, Joe Rocket gloves, Bangladesh flip flops (steel toes), a thong and knee pads for laying carpet. No, seriously, I have a first gear mesh jacket with armor in the shoulders and elbows. I wear Bohn Armor spandex/lycra pants with knee, hip, thigh, and tail bone armor under my diamond cut jeans that have Kevlar reinforced knees and butt, fieldsheer gloves with padded knuckles and finger protection plus a full face HJC helmet and Wal-Mart commando boots ($28). The summers here in Arkansas are brutal!!!! As of now, 26 July, we're having 97-100 degree days with a heat index of around 105. I just try not to ride in the afternoons, the peak of the heat. However, I get off work at 4pm and have a 23 mile commute. I live in eastern Arkansas in rice and soybean country. I still wear all the gear!! Hot? you bet!! Uncomfortable? most definitely!! But it far surpasses any road rash that you may encounter!!! Before I leave work for home I wet down my T-shirt. The first gear mesh jacket has really good ventilation and that coupled with the wet T-shirt makes it bearable. I don't care how hot, or how much ridicule you may receive - WEAR YOUR PROTECTIVE GEAR!! I used to get ribbed all the time at work but now everyone respects my dedication. We've had several locals in shorts and T-shirts get skinned alive and now all of my non-riding colleagues understand why I insist on wearing my gear!!

Here in SLC temps have been 98-106. I choose not to compromise on protection and ride daily.

Been riding in my Vanson full perf sportrider pants, Vanson Cobra 2 perf jacket. All vents open. Sidi Vertigo Air boots. Thorlo thin grade military boot socks- the silver thread in these is antibacterial and keeps everything very clean.

The key is the base layers- Underarmor heat gear boxers, an RS Taichi Coolmax helmet liner under my Arai Corsairs, and an RS Taichi Mawus 1-piece inner suit I picked up in Japan. I rotate every other day between full perf Vanson Talon gloves and a pair of RS Taichi GP WRX vented gloves.

These base layers instantly transport sweat off your skin with the result that the slightest breeze is almost like flipping on AC.

Stop and go freeway traffic sucks and must be avoided, but strategic selection of routes helps a lot.

It's also important to hang the leathers so they get airflow after use. I have two complete sets of the Vansons so I rotate them to ensure complete drying.

Just a note (correction?), the Underarmour summer weight (thin) is called Heat Gear, the winter stuff (multiple layer) is called Cold Gear. Did you accidentally reverse your references, or is that really what you're using?

I just picked up the Fieldsheer Titanium Air 3 pants a few months ago. I paid $110 for them and they include a waterproof thermal liner for colder wet weather. Without the liner in the pants they are very comfy in the hot weather and have decent armor and reinforced sections. For a jacket I wear the Fieldsheer Aviator textile jacket. It has a couple of large vents but I still get toasty in it. I usually keep it unzipped about 1/4 down and wear a wicking athletic shirt beneath.

    Regards,
    Rollin

I have not ridden in hot weather since June 28th. Unfortunatly that is when I crashed my 999R at 40 mph going around a cloverleaf. Temp was around 100 here in Lubbock. Thankfully I was wearing my Shoei helmet, Joe Rocket Pheonix mesh jacket, Joe Rocket leather speedmaster gloves, Joe Rocket jeans (with metal mesh at abraision points) and Joe Rocket speedmaster boots. Came away with two small spots of roadrash on my arm. (and broken clavicle, 3 ribs, and rotator cuff tear). Would not expect the gear to prevent the broken bones, but it would have been so much worse without it.
I have always been good about wearing most of the gear, I am sure I will be even better now.

I'm in Phoenix as well. In the summer I have a relatively inexpensive Motoboss mesh jacket from Cycle Gear - probably not ideal and I'll probably move up to a Joe Rocket something - or - other in the future. For now, jeans until I get some decent riding pants. Helmet, of course, (Scorpion EXO400), Alpinestars SMX 2 gloves. Most of my riding is the short commute to - and - from work and the occasional weekend outing by myself or a local riding group.

I always get a kick when people say "isn't it hot with that jacket on?" , especially if I happen to have the leather First Gear on. I just give them a "whaddya mean??" look and say "no, not at all". OF COURSE it's hot, but you know what? you deal with it and keep your skin intact.

In the San Antonio TX heat (today 100 in the hill country) I ride in a mesh Teknic jacket and pants with drylete on underneath. Alpinestars mesh gloves, Smartwool boot socks, leather boots and a Shark RSI helmet.

I wear my heated vest, but plugged in backwards to reverse the polarity. Keeps me nice and cool.

On my Aerostitch I just fill all the pockets with crushed ice. You'll be cool, but damp.

I wore a Olympia armored mesh for a few days in 90+ degrees and decided it was not much cooler than my AStars Black Label with the perfed flanks and vents open. The leather looks nicer, so I wear it all the time. I have the AStars armored denim that breathe well when moving, but the kevlar lining sticks to ya when you're sitting still.

Hey Drewl....I bought an A-stars "Air-FLO" jacket a few weeks ago from motorcycle superstore. It looked nice, but man, I did not feel safe in it. Just felt too filmsy, and no waist cinch straps at all! I mean, shouldn't that be like standard issue on most MC jackets? I think so. I could just feel how bad this jacket was going to ride up on me during a slide, so I refunded it. I am just still wearing my cow (leather). I just wanted something else to try on really hot days, and to share the wear on two jackets. I need to keep looking I guess. I would like a two piece all weather suit.

    Stuke,

I know Joe Rocket does not seem to be the most popular on this site but I have three different Joe Rockets. One of them is the Meteor 6.0 jacket and the Alter Ego pants to go with it. This is a textile and is really a four season set. The protection is not quite what the leathers are but when you are making something multi purpose, you do loose some benefit somewhere down the line. It has a zip out liner that makes this bearable in the heat if you open the vents as well, but it is not as cool as the perforated I find. Though nothing is "water proof" this one is pretty good. After washing it though, it lost its water repellent. I have tried the Heavy duty Scotch guard this with some success. Still waiting to hear back from Joe Rocket on this but I do expect to overcome this problem. USed mine the other day as we had rain forecast and it had warmed up pretty good by the commute home, and I was fine.
