Folks, My cooling fans did not come on today even though the temp gauge went up easily above 3/4 position. The fans worked fine before I took it to the Honda dealer so I am hoping that it is just a connector disconnected or something. They did a complete carb overhaul. Is there anything such as an electircal connector that needs to be disconnected when pulling the carbs? Any other quick thoughts? Thanks for your help!
The fan connectors are on the right side of the bike between the frame and the airbox. The fanstat connector is on bottom of the lower rad - on the backside. If either are disconnected, then the fans won't turn on. Could also be a bad fanstat. Short the fanstat connection to ground and the fans should turn on.
hi, check the fan fuse (it's a 10/A fuse, in the fuse box). Then, try to disconnect the cable (a black one) coming from the fan switch (on the bottom of the rad) and put in on the frame : if the fan turns the problem is the fan thermoswitch the doesn't activate the fan (after many years this switch is over or activates the fan too late). Let us know. Lamps to you !
sorry, I forgot this : when you connect the fan switch cable on the frame, the ignition key must be in postion "on". But when you check fuses the key is in position "off". To avoid other electrical damages, of course !
