Ok, so Vlad asked for a filter thread, and I really don't see much issues with filters, but the Fram PH6010xx seems to be the only filter around here. I went to the local Honda dealer and they seemed more amazed and interested that I had a 86 VFR750 instead of selling me parts. (BTW, they must be affraid of these things, no one wants to work on them or sell parts for them. I found one dealership, but they're 60 miles away.)

Anywho, let's have it, what filter do you use?:argue2:

I bought the K&N filter (because I get it at cost), but haven't installed it yet. To be honest, I'm not sure I am going to use it.

I use a AC delco PF1127, because I'm poor and I get them of the shelf at work. I am however trying to get a good deal on a few KN202 from one of our performance parts suppliers. Some question on weather he can get the motorcycle filters, used to be K&N would only sell motorcycle filters to motorcylcle parts houses and car filters to car parts houses. Sounds stupid but true...........

Hey I'm not junior member anymore:thumbsup:

^^K & N oil filter. I am not a fan of the K&N air filters, I prefer a foam filter, but haven't cared enough to buy one yet.

I just installed a K&N on mine today #HP-1008. What I really like about it has a one inch fitting on the end for installing and taking off. Plus doing some research you find it's one of the top rated filters. However, oil and filters are so subjective this could go on for a while. If it fits the bike and your wallet and meets Honda specifications (which most do) use the dang thing.

Ok, I read the oil filter article (great reading, thanks MD!), but don't understand why he recommends a filter that has the second worst rating over the rest, the SuperTech. I, like him, am not an oil filter expert, but as an Army aircraft mechanic with 22 years on 6 airframes, I do kow that having too much filtering can be just as bad as not enough. Water can get trapped in a 5-10 micron filter, so what does oil get trapped at? Will a too fine of filter restrict the flow of oil, thus starving a motor of its life blood? And why did none of the tests show micron rating?

"A small step down are the Bosch and SuperTech filters. These filters all have advanced filter media which is clearly superior to anything else on the market." Supertech ST3593a, isn't this a WalMart brand? I'd be terrified of anything short of the smiley face stickers they give at the front door on my bike or car.

"I recommend you avoid Fram and Pennzoil filters." Ok, why stay away from Fram? Aren't they one of the leaders in filters? It says in the letter that all Fram filters have 10 micron filters, and the cardboard, you can almost guarentee it's not box quality cardboard. It's a composite material, like most high-tech composites today. Spectra-graphite is a composite, like kevlar and fiberglass, which could be classified as standard (fiberglass), premium (kevlar), and, for comparison, 'Pure-one' (spectra-graphite). However, all have their pros and cons.

It does make good information like the size and surface of the drain-back valves and how to avoid gadgets like the stainless steel filter.

SO, is it all in the name? Like Chris Farley said in Tommy Boy "I can take a sh1t in a box and put a guarentee on it..." Are companies like Fram, K&N, and other known 'big money' name companies selling us sh1t in a can to screw on our bikes, or is there more to theory than what it looks like?
