Thinking about the Dunlop Roadsmart tires. Now I went to a local bike shop and the guy said I can go 190 no problem. Is this true, I kind of like the look of the wider tire. I think the price he had on the tire was 170.00 which seems high compared to online prices. So if its ok to go with the 190 size I will probably order them online. One other thing, do I want to go with 190/50 or 190/55 if I do go with that size?

    Thank you.

A wider rear will slow your steering responce down. Me I stay stock. If you want it for bling, I suppose your ok, but there is a tradeoff.

wider tire causes lengthening of turn radius.
translates to more lean for same amount of turn.
also as a result bike is slower to turn.
I'd stay with the stock 180

Ok, im going to go with the stock size. Now what tire. Im thinking the roadsmarts, but is there anything out there better? Are the roadsmarts up there as far as price goes, can I get something better for a lower price. Bike will never be at a track. Nothing near south dakota that I know off plus don't know if I have the balls to take it on a track. Not really worried about how long a tire last's even though im going with a tire that sapposed to last longer because of the duel compound. All advice is welcome.

    Thank you.

One other thing, the shop I stoped in at said the front tire looks fine(stock). Should I change both tires if I don't have a problem with spending the money?

I guess a first question is what tires are on the bike right now. If the first has the original OEM D204 Dunlop, then YES! do go for a matched front and rear.

Money no object - you would go with a sport tire (as opposed to sport touring) because they have maximum stick you can get and thus safer. You will have to allow for tire warm up though. Examples- Dunlop Qualifier, Michelin Pilot Powers.(I'm a Q fan) Some people here swear by Conti Attacks. Expect to change the rear tire every 3500- 4000 miles. If you need longer life and still good stick the latest sport touring tires are supposed to be very good. The RoadSmarts and Michelin Pilot Road2 are at the top of some peoples lists.

    Hope this helps,
    MD

Helps alot, I do have the D204's on right now. I will look into the differences on the Michelin and Roadsmarts. I want something that is going to handle the rain and dry as well as good for corners, but were not talking high speed corners. I will get a liter bike or something like that after paying this one off. Then I will be more experianced with the crotch rocket type bike and gain "skill". Im more into travel right now so sport touring tires will probably be best.
