Hi all. I am pretty new to riding and brand new to VFRs - I picked up a red 95 on Friday and love it. PO even gave me the factory hard bags for it.

I have found one problem that I am hoping someone might be able to help with - the center stand. I seem to be missing the springs that pull and hold the stand back up. The PO had the stand zip tied up out of the way but i didn't notice when I bought it. I found the parts diagram for the stand but am unsure of how the springs get attached. Can someone post a photo of the center stand and spring placement or is there information about it somewhere? I searched the site but didn't come up with anything.

    Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to the forum! Congrats on your new bike! I have a 5th gen ('98), and my centerstand might be slightly different, but I will see about looking at that spring tomorrow if I remember.

WAIT for a cold day to install those springs because that job might raise sweat directly proportional to the tension and distance they need to stretch.

or...you could unbolt the centerstand and only use it at home, fairly easy to bolt up when needed.....

    Hi bbwong and [IMG]

Not sure if this helps, but here's the parts fiche of the side and center stand for that year. You can view at just about any Honda dealer who sells parts online; i usually use hondaparts-direct.com

Thanks for the welcome and replies.

squirrel - spring install going to be a 2 person job? or just a lot of laying under the bike fighting the tension? Is the right thing to unbolt the stand, install springs, reinstall?

porcupine - thanks for the site recommendation - i found the parts drawing, just not sure how they all fit together. from the parts list, it looks like i need #'s 3,4 and 5 but i don't know where the springs attach or what it's supposed to look like.

Oh, recommendations for service manual? Honda Factory vs. someone else?

    HONDA book is the best.

" Is the right thing to unbolt the stand, install springs, reinstall?" YES, probably.

If you want the printed Honda service manual, you can get it at www.helminc.com
