My current bike has aftermarket pro-grips with cruise control. The fatter grips are pretty nice and the cruise control is a nice touch for long rides on the freeway.

One of the hardest parts when I first started riding was learning that it is possible to control fingers, wrist, elbow, upper arm and shoulders independently; each can change the level of strength applied and position independent of other parts of the arm. The handlebars don't need a death grip, as the other members have said keep your arms limber and loose.

I've found that angling your hands in a manner that if your thumbs are extended pointing towards each other parallel to the ground with your elbows pointing slightly toward the bottom of your ribs offers a really nice, low laying hand position.

    Wrists straight? That's not safe.

I have the same problem. When I go on long trips it really bothers me. I dont have a deaf grip. I do relax my arms and use my core to hold up my weight. My wrist and thumb joint throb after so long. I think it has more to do with the angle and position my wrist is in when holding throttle over time. I'm going to try the throttle rocker for 10 bucks. Hopefully this solves the problem. If not then plan B......

Sirlot, definitely try the throttle rocker. At worse you are out 10 bucks. I have to admit that I was worried that my thumb and wrist would not hold up when I took my trip to MN this spring, but I had no problems. (Everything gets a bit sore after 10 hours on the bike!) And since then I have had no problems. Some of this is due to changes to my setup and posture, but I think to some degree it is a matter of conditioning which just takes time and consistency. There is enough difference between the VFR and my Shadow that all my riding on the latter didn't quite translate into riding the former.

My left gets almost unusable from time to time, but that is confirmed tendinitis. Doc gives me injections for that which lasts for 6 - 12 months My instructor told us to grip the throttle like a croissant, not like a baseball bat. Could this be an issue you think?

I noticed some tingling in my wrists early on with this bike, but also noticed that faster I and more aggressive the ride, the less the effect. These guys are on to something about two up riding, I'm always more tense with a passenger, and always counterbalancing them a bit. I finally schooled my wife on locking into my movements when in the twisties and that helped. Aftermarket or home made throttle assists work well on long rides, I once did a thousand-in-one ( not on a VFR) with a aftermarket throttle lock that let you override it when need be, and it worked really well, however you can actually get drowsy doing that.
