I'm hoping someone with an 500F can help me out here. I have an 84' that is in good condition. I'm trying to figure out if I have the stock gearing on this bike or if something was changed by the previous owner.

The bike is extremely peppy off the line but the high end is very poor. Is it normal to be at 7,000 RPM in 6th gear cruising at 55 MPH? I had it up to 70 MPH and she was a little below 10,000 RPM.

Is this normal or has something changed? Is there a way to look at the sprocket and know it is not OEM or at least not the same tooth configuration?

The stock rear sprocket has 43 teeth.
The stock front sprocket has 15 teeth.
The stock chain length is 108 links (530 chain)

really 128 MPH on a 500F wow mine wont even touch that. Id be lucky if mine would do that if i had it topped out. i think mine will do 110-112 at the begining of the red line

The way I think of it there is about an 11:1 ratio. For example: 5000rpm is 55mph (5x11=55). 6000rpm is about 66mph (6x11=66), etc etc. If that doesn't make sense don't worry, it's just my weird sense of logic.

It sure sounds like yours has been geared differently. I think you'll find that the stock gearing is just as quick off the line, the V4's have enough low and mid power that gearing doesn't really help much.

This is very much off. I'm not positive, but I think around 7000rpm is about 75mph for me.

Additionally, mine also really doesn't take off until about 8k.
