Hi there! I just bought a SHARK dual slipon used on a yamaha R6, I was going to weld it on when I discovered that it actually fits with NO modifications! :)

    Here are some pics!

    Sounds sweet!

    Now for the questions!

1.) The exhaust coming from the left pipe is MUCH hotter than the right one! Any ideas why??

2.) Is it common that the exhaust shoots 10 inch flames when I rev and let go of the throttle??

All R6's used a single pipe, can you confirm the donor bike these came from? From the looks of them it might have been a 90's ZX600E.

The exhaust flow and temperature are both normal. The odd flow is the reason slip-ons with the stock header create a loss of power. The flames are bad, it sounds like you are running pretty rich!

I forgot to tell this, but the slipons are from a r6, but its one of those dual things. 2 on one side!

    Something like this

So its no problem that the temperature is uneven?

The flames are usually due to running to lean when you change to slipons, but it did the same thing with the stock pipes! :)

    Sweet! Where!?...

It looks like they are not symmetric, the right pipe has a bend (which, I guess, is consistent with the way they were designed to mount on R6). Can this explain the difference in temperature?

Jamie, could you please explain (or point to some reading material) your point about the loss of power with stock headers and slip-ons?

BTW, I agree with Jamie, flames are the sign of the rich condition. Lean condition does lead to backfireing, but I think it takes really lean mix to cause backfireing on these bikes. I had it on my vf700f when one of the membranes in the carbs tore, and even then it was weak. It was associated with VERY notable loss of power.

I bought them used for 100 bucks!

The bends up to the silencers are not symmetric, but the silencers very symmetric.

Backfire was the word I was going to use, not flames! I'm from Norway, that's why my English sucks!

I think Ill take the carbs apart an check that everything is OK.

Wow, that' s a very good deal!

BTW, I have exact the same model/color bike, I wish mine looked as good as yours. Where did you get this thermostat housing and the aftermarket hose?

Thanks, its nice from far but far from nice hehe. The thermostat is the original one, but painted silver as I didnt have any black spraypaint at the moment.

Buy 1 meter 19mm silicone hose and it will fit ALL the radiatorhoses. Except the the lowest one on the thermostat housing (because its a 90 degree bend). Cheap mod that makes it a bit more fresh!

What the hell! I think I have to take the whole exhaust apart! I think something is wrong in the collector. There is vacuum in the right side exhaust!!

I guess nobody is still reading this BUT, I took the exhaust apart, seems like it suppose to be that way. Both of the rear cylinders + the front left one goes to the right side.

I don't have the cop of that magazine article anymore, but they dyno tested a loss of about 1-3hp on the top end. Keep in mind that this only applies to the first generation VF's, if your buddy sites evidence that his CBR600 gains power with a slip-on you are comparing apples to oranges. It has to do with the way the stock collector is designed (see below). A full system is the only way to go on the early V4's.

This is normal. At higher engine rpm's and loads the flow would balance out. The V4 engine is really tough to 'tune' the exhaust. Believe it or not, I think Honda spent a lot of time designing the stock exhaust, even though it doesn't perform that well.

What year of R6 did that set up come from?

It could be because im using cans from a newer VFR but my bike seemed to pick up a lil bit extra when i installed my Kirkers. However i have been looking at the image for that X pipe exhaust that i posted up awhile ago have pondered the idea of making a new XPipe style collector or buying that system for my bike and just using my Kirker mufflers on it...
