yodasmile This passed 4th of July weekend. I took the Motorcycle Safety Course. I can trully say that I learn a lot from the course, It was also so much fun. I did 100% on the driving part. With the certificate they gave me, I went to the DMV and passed the written test. So now I'm legal, got my Motorcycle License. Yeahhh!:whoo::whoo:

Congrats on your legality. I unfortunately do not have my license yet, I have heard rumors that in the driving part of the test you are asked to lay your bike down on its side and then pick it back up. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this or is it just B.S? I am not too keen on the idea of setting my bike down on its side. Also how long have any of you been riding without a license?

Congrats Yoda!!!! Must feel great to have your endorsement (just the permit here still).

Sidlives - I can't imagine that ever happening. Your DMV should have a book to study for the writen test, in Oregon ones they show the different tests you have to do if you take the test at DMV and not a MSF course.

    Well done, Yoda.

Sidlives - I've never heard of that and find it hard to believe it would be a requirement. Definitely not here in CA, and not in Nevada either.

    Congratulations yoda!

sidlives, I have not heard of the requirement to show that you can pick the bike up. Some MSF books do show the technique for a light bike and for a heavier bike (which is actually very good to read so to know how in an emergency hehe), so maybe someone saw the technique in the book and assumed it is on the test. However I could see some states making this requirement to show that if you drop the bike in traffic you can pick it up yourself without blocking traffic for too long or something?

It seems each state has a slightly different way they use the MSF basic rider course BRC to waive their road test. In NY, you take a written test to get a permit, then you can take the BRC, then if you pass the BRC written and driving portions in about 3 weeks you get a waiver card in the mail that you take to the DMV and get your motorcycle endorsement. Man that 3 week wait was a killer for me, motorcycle cabin fever! However in PA if you pass the BRC, they stamp your permit on the spot and you are good to go, plus the BRC is free to take in PA for PA residents.

I'm sure that if before taking the driving portion of the test you ask if it is ok if you use the force, most instructors would probably be cool with that.
