Not sure if any one here will be able to help me with this.
I have a friend that took a low speed fall a couple weeks ago on his 02 ZX7R he was not hurt but in the process he broke his shift linkage. Well we installed the new linkage this weekend but now his bike will only shift between 1st and neutral (will not shift into 2nd and above gears).

Any help that could be give would be greatly appreciated

Depending on the impact & where, It could be many things, & most has to do with opening up the case to repair.

Ck all external components again more carefully to see if something is touching another part of the bike, ect, ect.

My bet is the shift arm shaft is bent or Shifting fork or like as I'm not as familier with Kawi's (Have some, just haven't had to tear apart - Yet).

also...the way K bike shifting systems work, they need to "re-set". Check to confirm that when the shift lever has moved from 1st to neutral, that the lever then drops back down a bit, to the "ready to shift again" position. I've had Kawas do this in the past...the lever stays in the "just shifted" position, the detent system doesn't re-set, and you ride all the way home in 1st gear until you figure out that you just need to snik it down a bit (like a half-downshift) to re-set the detent, then it allows you to shift it up into the next gear.

If this excersise proves effective, let me know and I'll offer some advice on fixing it.
