Could you imagine what the world would be like if one of these guys who hates wheelies was in charge of it all? "Ok, sky diving is dangerous! No more of that!"
"Surfing!? Geeze you MIGHT get bitten by a shark! Are you crazy?"
" Salt on your food! Are you crazy!? Thats not good for you! You cant have that."
And so on, and on and on untill everything is so fing boreing I shoot myself to get it over with.
There is definatly a time and place for pulling a wheelie and there are too many riders who are fing that rule up. But we cant assume everyone who has a sense of adventure is a SQUID. Period.

So as far as wheeling this bike, it is heavy and you need a method beside on/off throttal to get it up proper. I would suggest taking some preload out of the front and rear and running say 32 psi in both tires. This will help with a bounce and a landing. Your best bet is to get used to 2nd or 3rd gear clutching. You want to run it around 8k, pull the clutch in fast as you roll the gas a little and release clutch when it shoots up past 11k roughly. This sucks for your clutch but its easiest. Other way is be at 8-10k in 2nd or 3rd and bounce at the same time you roll off and quickly back on the gas. Most of the time you will only get a power wheelie out of this and will pick up speed quickly. Unless you can shift your gonna come down when you hit the rev limiter. Good luck....and I suggest expecting to drop it. Which means proper leathers from head to toe and sliders for your baby. Better to expect it than be disapointed by it.

One wheelie on the VFR, so far.
Put the front wheel in the air leaving the local country store, as one of my neighbors was attempting to use more than their share of the parking lot. In order to keep from being hit, I cracked it wide open, rolling at 5 mph. Up she came.
Have to say, it was fun!

Think what is being said is more like sky diving after checking all your equipment is considered a safe risk, sky diving after deliberately cutting half your suspension and steering lines before jumping may be exciting but an unnecessarily dangerous one.

Then no one was listening when the OP said he was doing this when no cars were around on a highway. And I would say your metaphor is misguided. IF he was pulling wheelies in traffic on the highway its the endangerment of innocents that gets the Self important soap boxers riled up(which by the way are everywhere on any kind of forum. They are the ones who are quick to judge and more likely just jealous and threatened by anything different) . Your statement makes him sound suicidal and makes no sense. From day one motorcycle's have been about something new and exhilarating. It doesn't matter if its cornering or wheelies that excites you, were all doing it for the same reason. Unless your boring and ride below the speed limit at all times and only bought your ride to get better gas mileage, lol. In that case why did you buy a VFR and not a scooter?:bs:

Sorry I'm not against wheeling as such especially on the dirt or race track but I have ridden long enough ( on and off for 3 decades ) to have known one rider personally who speared himself into a tree wheeling at 60mph on an empty Highway in front of 5 of his friends.

A very close friend of mine was one following and witnessed it all in seemingly slow motion and was forever changed. The rider wheeling was very experienced and had performed the same stunt literally 100's of times previously in many varied situations he just landed wrong that one time.

Not to bring a downer on motorcycling otherwise I wouldn't keep returning to it and consider it to be the only place rain or shine, commuting or touring I feel total joy but think like I other wheely nay sayers are suggesting that motorcycling on city streets while fun is in the end a serious business.

Stepping off my Soap box will now unwind myself from this thread feeling slightly saddened.

Its unfortunate when things like that happen. I lost a friend who was an experienced 250CC dirt track rider. He was in a race and landed a simple jump all wrong crushing his ribs through his lungs. Wether the track or an empty street or even to go for an easy ride, we all get on our machines understanding the same thing, today could be our last. And we should take risks according to our own desired level of risk, it is OUR choice!( I dont agree with endagering the life of others in our risk, I just know someone will bring that up) And may we be able to make that choice and not have that freedom taken away.

Disagree. It's a style of showing off.

Riding involves two wheels on the ground unless you're a track racer fighting to keep the front down out of a turn. Real riding skill is about riding fast, smooth, well and safe.

I encourage you to keep working on the wheelies (far away from me, please - I don't want my kids to see you cartwheeling down the highway), so you can stimulate the economy by spending more on fixing your bike and yourself.

Ok, as much as I tried to stay away from this one...this thread just keeps spiraling out of control. All of this arguing and name calling is not doing anybody any good, and it doesn't seem like it wants to stop. I am gonna lock this thread after I say this.....

If somebody wants to do a wheelie, cool, it is your life. Please wear your gear, and practice in a safe area where your actions will not affect (hurt) others. I think that wheelies are cool as well, but not when they are done in traffic, in busy residential areas, or anywhere else where lots of people are around. Then your actions could possibly hurt others, AND it will further tarnish our image to others around who think we are nothing better than a bunch of stunting hooligans.
