Hey, I have had my motorcycle endorsement for approx 4 months now. I've put 4k miles on my 2001 Suzuki sv650s and I am currently 17 years old. I love it. I LOVE the sound of a v-twin...its wonderful! I am a pretty good mechanic. I have replaced the chain/sprockets...and have done a couple oil changes already plus a new rear tire. Anyway, I've been looking at new bikes. I DON'T like I-4's at all. I know it is kinda weird. So, I've head quite a bit of good things the Honda Interceptor. I am going to be in the market for a bigger more comfortable bike in the future...so I figured I'll get ahead of the game. So, I have a couple questions to start off. -Are these bikes pretty reliable? <-Other than it being a Honda of course:wink: -Known problems? -What years/types should I stay away from? -Also, expected gas mileage? Thank you very much...and here is my bike:smile:
Welcome to the club. Personally, I think any year of the VFR is worth having, the only consideration being parts availability for some of the older models, just like any other bike. Honda is better than most about keeping parts available, though. Out of all the posts that I have read through here, I do not remember anybody saying that they did not like their VFR, regardless of year. One of the forums here (I can't remember which, sorry) has a pretty decent list of specs for the different generations. I'll leave this alone at this point, as I am a VFR neophyte, relative to most of the members here. Clean SV! I still have my '00, and probably always will. Good bikes. By the way, using the "search" feature for things like gas mileage will find a lot of info, and just reading through a lot of the current posts will give a decent overview of the kind of issues that come up. Most of them are minor, and more of a nuisance than anything major. The only thing I can think of right off is the charging system issues on the 5th Gen (and 4th?), but the fixes are well known and documented.
Welcome, DirtySV. Looks like you are taking good care of your bike. Lgn is right: Do some searching of past posts and read and participate in the new ones, and you will learn a lot, and be entertained!
Coming from a SV, the fifth or sixth gen is probably best for you as the fuel injection has little maintenaince, and the gear driven cams on the 5th are even more worry-free. Enjoy!
Thanks guys! I'll definitely start looking around and gathering as much info as possible. I would rather not start new topics that have been started hundreds of times like how fast does it go, what oil to use, synthetics, octane, squids...and that stuff. Again, thanks for your help...looks like I'll be around awhile
Howdy, don't ya just love a smart Kid, good choice, you can't go wrong with any of them, so pick your poison, lots to choice from in models just again pick what you like at a price you can handle. Don't forget you can always ask questions here.
Thanks! I do have kinda an odd question. I looked at a new vfr (the 25th anniversary one) online and it has passenger pegs but no passenger seat...whats up with that? Thanks
Oh, I saw that ad too. The pass seat was there but the girl's a$$ was so big you just couldn't see it:hitit:
No I get it. I figured it either came with a seat or with a cowl...not both. But whats the point of having a seat cowl and pass. foot pegs?
It is a little tough to tell from the pictures, but the cowl only covers the passenger portion of the seat. It comes off easily.
