I just got an 86 VF500 Interceptor and the right hand side of the front fork has some fluid leaking from between the black seal and the red outer casing of the whole thing. Please excuse my crude choice of words but I am new to bikes and was wondering what was causing this problem. If a picture or something would help Ill try to post one. Does anyone know what causes this and how I can fix it. The guy I bought it from said "Completely rebuilt by professional mechanic including new brakes, filters, seals, chain, clutch parts..too many to mention." in the ad. Also the horn does not work, I am checking the wiring, any good sources possibly in local stores for a replacement? OH yeah and the rear breaks work about 5% lol. I might try the cup of break fluid and hose on bleed screw bleeding method.

sherb......nice looking bike....pretty clean. Nice shape. Sounds like you might need some new fork seals. take a look at your fork slider tubes as well, and make sure that they are not damaged like, nicked, dented, etc....something that could cause the leak and/or damage the fork seals

It's possible that the PO used Leak Proof brand seals. That's the worst name because they start leaking after less than a year (in most cases). Check the stanchion tubes (the smaller chrome parts that go through the triple clamps and what the handle bars attach to) for pits, scratches or other damamge. Anything besides VERY small scratches will damage a new seal pretty quickly.

I checked out the fork slider tubes and there are small little rust pits in the fork slider most likely from road debris. Does anyone have a good single or pair of fork slider tubes for a VF500 Interceptor or know a good site to get some replacements CHEAP.
