Hello everyone, Im picking up my first bike this friday. Its a 84' 700 Interceptor. It has no gas tank and it overheats. It's got 19k miles. I haven't even looked at it yet, but I'm getting it soo cheap that even if its really crappy I could strip it for parts and make the money back very very fast. Questions: Where can I find a nice gas tank? What are common reasons for overheating? Thanks guys:strong:
Find a gas tank....hmmmmm....Craigslist, E-Bay, VFRWorld buying & selling. Common reasons for overheating: 1. Thermostat stuck closed. 2. Air trapped in System. 3. Broken down (very old) coolant that has lost it's cooling properties, and/or scale corrosion in cooling system. 4. Bad waterpump 5. Damaged Radiator and/or Radiator fins 6. Bad cooling fan (if it happens at slow speeds only) 7. The alignment of the planets. 8. Because the ice cream is now in a 1.5qt container instead of a 1.75qt container....who did THEY think they were fooling??? Bastages.....I've got their money right here! :boxing:
Don't forget the fanstat and radiator cap. Plus make sure the following doesn't leak: -Heat sensor to Thermostat housing. Wrap threads with teflon tape. -90 degree recovery hose elbow to recovery tank. I removed the OEM elbow and grommet and ran a 1/4" fuel line hose from the radiator straight down into the bottom of the recovery tank. If the cooling system cannot maintain pressure, then the coolant starts to boil at too low of a temperature - reducing the cooling potential of the system. If you hear the coolant "boil" after stopping for a ride, then you have an air leak. If the recovery bottle level is too high, and your radiator level is too low, you have a leak between the recovery bottle and the radiator.
Thanks Mason....I forgot to mention that. You may need to pressure test your cooling system to check for leaks...and as Mason stated, checking the radiator cap is a good start.
eBay Motors: Gas Tank, Fuel Tank, VFR500 Interceptor VFR 500 750 (item 220252596126 end time Jul-06-08 17:56:14 PDT) Judging by the paint, isnt this a vf700 tank?
Negative Ghostrider, pattern is full. That's a 500 tank, but a VF500 (geez). The clues are 1) the gas cap 2) the steep cutout near the steering head and 3) the notches for the seat.
