Seems to me here that there is two VFR worlds that is dividing this place.
Now first off don't flame me for bringing up the obvious, this is just an observation, but one thats very noticeable never the less. I like em all, just feel the need to bring it up for conversation sake if nothing else. whats your thoughts?

6th Generations are a whole nother breed of VFR, yes, no question about it, then there's the 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th that set the tone of what there is today, still great machine even after 20+ years. The 5th is in a flux more or less, a great split up the middle of a machine that does it all really really well, why Honda choice to move from that platform bugs me.

But take a look at where Honda took the VFR of today, that and the current model has been out 6years, longest of any of the models, where is it going?

For me? I'm a simple dude that prefers simple things, no need to make a bike more complected than necessary, one of the reasons I have what I have. So when I come here, love this place, it's easy to see two VFR worlds once in awhile, where folks butt heads over no mines better no mine is, it's all good. Just would like to see 6th gen owners respect VFRs of the past and not look down on em like an inferior piece of machinery is all, as I got snubbed a couple times. I'm thick skinned, But come on , last time I checked they're not BMWs :tongue:

The V-Strom world is the same. There is a gulf between the 650 and 1000 owners that neither side can see across.

We are all bound by the bike we choose to ride and there is no reason for controversy over which variant is best.

yodasmile To be honest, When I first started in this forum, I noticed the same thing. The 5th Gen vs 6th Gen brawls where more common than now (Thank God for that!). I can say that I love my 6th Gen, I have seen the 4th and 5th Gens on the street and I love them too. They look lovely!
You need to build a foundation, to build a house on top of it. That's the way I see it.

    I like'em all.

If I see a vfr, no matter the gen I want to look at it, talk to the owner, and bs with them for as long as they can stand it. Just yesterday I followed a guy on a gen 6 rwb into his driveway to ask him about his bike (it's the only one I've seen in my neighborhood). He was a little startled at first, but after I told him a was a fellow viffer owner we must have talked a good twenty minutes.

    IMO,

    Viffers are like hot chicks.

1st and 2nd gens are like sweet twenty somthing milfs. A little older but still amazing

3rd and 4th gens are like are like hot college girls, fast, sexy, and agile.

5th gens are like the perfect blend of smoking hot chick that's down for anything. A fancy night on the town in a sexy dress, or down to the local pizza joint in a pair of form fitting levi's.

6th gens are like a refined super model. They're a little finicky and have a bit of an attitude, but if you treat'em right, they'll knock your socks off!

    I know, I know,

Given my descriptions, one would could summize I might have the Viffer fever.:flame:

almost forgot to post a random, self satifying pic of my baby.

I respect yours and everyone else's machine...

Honestly, when I first joined I experienced the opposite where members were saying that the 6th gen is a piece of garbage, not a VFR, no gears, VTEC blah blah. And there still is at least one member who states that in his signature... There will always be a few members who don't respect something for what it is and feel that their opinion is "IT"... And no one person can make an assumption on what one feels about their own bike and would ignorant to do so.

I like your bike... can I have it?

What we need is to give the older models a more friendly look. Here's an idea to get started:

As a 6th gen owner I certainly don't "look down" on previous models. In fact, I rather like the 3rd gen VFR a lot. I'd own one in a minute.

The 6th gen is more complicated than previous models, but that is true of any bike, or any car for that matter. If anyone is thinking that the 7th gen VFR is going to somehow be a simpler bike, prepare to be disappointed. Honda may opt to shift the bike more towards a supersport, but it's still going to be a complicated machine--just look at the new CBR1000RR!

With that complexity though comes advances or at least incremental improvements on items like brakes, tires, suspension, emissions, efficiency, etc. Clearly, a majority of people buying brand new bikes must be seeking these attributes.

The 3rd gen I'm so fond of is a simple bike compared to my 6th gen, but that doesn't make it cheap or incompetent. Engineers knew what they were doing back then and a lot of careful engineering went into the 3rd gen. Throw some new tires, brake pads, spark plugs, fluids, and suspension parts on one, and it will defy it's age pretty easily.

Maybe I just notice it more, but it seems like it's always the 5th gen owners ripping on the 6th gen bikes.. I don't think I've ever seen a post where a 6th gen owner talks crap about a 5th or older bike..

If I ever can find a clean low mile 5th gen. I will pick it up.
    I'd love to have both.

I am with Jasonsmith, I sensed that it was the owners of older generations that (mostly in a humorous vein) had the problem with the 6th gen bike. I have not sensed that many 6th gen owners have a problem with older gens. This is not a scientific survey of course, just an observation. I personally have no trouble with the older gens or with the owners of them liking them more than the 6th. To each his own. They are different machines and it makes sense that they attract owners looking for those attributes. Seems simple yet it also seems simple that one website for all gens makes sense. Doesn't it? Why stir the sh-t? Can't we all just get along?

Motorcycle people can be funny that way. The whole "generation" thing is divisive in itself. It's great to love your bike, but it's a machine. It can be broken and repaired. It can be replaced. Then what? Do you have a new circle of friends now? Also, the internet tends to make ones opinions stronger at times. Makes ones "britches" bigger somehow. Gotta love anonymous mass communication. Anyway, that's just the opinion of someone that grew up talking face to face with people.

Given the space, money and time, I would kind of like to have one of each generation (the VFR's, that is). And the icing on the cake would be an appropriate woman for each of the Gen's.

    Come on, lottery ticket!

Way to stir the pot! I was hoping for a good oil thread but this will do just as well. I think it’s largely a matter of perspective. I, like most of the other 6thgen guys, feel like most of the 5th gen snub us. I can’t recall any of the 6th gen guys saying “I’d never ride on a 5th gen bike”, but how many times have you seen a 5th gen guy saying “I’d never have a VTEC bike”?

As for the split, ya it’s there, but most of us are pretty cool about it. Personally, I don’t care what bike you have, as long as you don’t get into the “mines better than yours” routine. Everybody makes different choices and likes different things. If you’re happy with what you got, great, it shouldn’t matter what everyone thinks. I like my VFR just fine but there are bikes out there I would trade it for (none even close to what I can afford now). So stay cool my VFR brothers and keep you sense of humor.

I guess I am different then. I really don't care about what Gen VFR someone has. I only wish I new more about the older generations. I LOVE BIKES.
I have ever since I was a kid and I got my first mini (Honda 50 three speed). I like old bikes, new bikes, big bikes, small bike, sport bikes, cruisers, standards/naked etc.....
I see beauting in older machines.

No looking down here but I do have more in common on this site with 6 Gen owners because we share the same machine.

I fell into my generation-no choice in the matter. Finding out about what I owned was first priority. Along the way I have learned lots about the other generations.
I love the bike I have. It has many charaterisitcs that appeal to me.
I respect the other generations for their different looks, features, sounds, and all around quality.
    Let's ride.

I have a 6th Generation, and would not trade it for the world. I absolutely love it.

But then I love the older ones too! I really like the clean lines they have, not as much plastic, less complicated.

If I could, I'd have one of each year, with an appropriate GUY to go with each one!! [IMG]he he he he

:flamer:. lol...........sorry couldn't resist RVFR. I like all the VFR's (and VF's). I just don't think it is as nice looking as previous models. That's just my opinion. But if I seem em, no matter what Gen. I give em respect.
