I have noticed that my '00 makes an odd noise. At first I thought it was just a fairing buzz. But it sounds like a buzz coming from the engine, but it is only while accelerating.

any thoughts? I thought it sounded like the cam gears were buzing, but im not sure. And the cam whine sounds no different,so I'm really not sure what to think.

Chain? My bike was doing that after a new chain, and erring on the side of too loose. At 50mph+ and on the throttle the chain would tap things as it was slung off the bottom of the drive sprocket.

I sprayed the chain down with some lube, and it is still making the noises. Though it does seem a hair quieter, I imagine that is in my head.

Flapper valve noise sometimes sounds funny , or it may be time to get the valves checked.

Check the tension on it, was what I meant. Mine looked loose, but not TOO loose when parked, but when running, it was clear it was tapping things, and makes a buzzy sound at speed.

My valves make a lot of noise, too, so that might be what it is (as others have said). To those others, are valves quieter when properly clearanced, and they wear tight, right?

I have a 06 and I get a noise that sounds like a rattle type noise that only comes in over 4k rpm, it sounds like a ball valve type ratle noise is this similar doesn,t seem to noticably bother the performance

Yes it is on the airbox intake system, my flapper valve was making a noise so I cleaned it and made sure it was opening closing properly , no more noise.. You may also have a couple valves out of adjustment depending on how many miles are on your VFR.

28,000 miles on my 1999 VFR and I never had to adjust them yet..
