Hi, just picked up my 2006 VFR a few days ago and planned on taking about a 1200 mile road trip next week. However the salesman was telling me that I really should bring the bike in at 600 miles. Is it really that necessary to bring it in at 600 or would bringing it in at 1200 be just as good?

If you haven't changed your oil yet you should it's a good idea to change it early(first couple hundred miles)to get any metal and break in lube out. The rest of the 600mi check up is just checking nuts, bolts, throttle play, chain, etc... It's basically a way for the dealer to get another $150-$200 out of you for an expensive oil change. It won't hurt your bike to wait but I'd give it a once over before going on a long trip some times mechanics don't tighten everything properly when putting the bike together.
