You are better off buying a 5th gen 1998-2001 VFR as the cams are gear driven and there is "NO vtec crap" to worry about .....

as the ,2002-2008 6th gen has Vtec and cam chains and tensioners that have a history of sloppy craftsmanship by honda..

I have ridden 3 different vtec model 6th gens and I will gladly keep my 5th gen unless Honda wants to pay me $$$$$ a huge bribe to ride the Vtec model.

I own both VTEC and non-VTEC VFRs. The VTEC is a solid technology and if you get one, you won't have to worry about it at all. It's been on the current model since 2002 and still going strong. The later models do have a smoother transition. You'll have to dig deep to find any quality related problems with the VTEC or cam chain tensioners on this model. It's a solid machine.

I'm a big fan of the V-Tech engine. No problems here so far. It's a GREAT bike. I own an 04 VFR and the transition from 2 to 4 valves (at about 7000 rpms) honestly isn't very smooth but I love that burst of power. That's when the engine really starts to sing. I personally adjust my riding style on twisty roads so that when I'm in a turn I avoid the v-tech. I don't want any sudden bursts of power and I think that's the problem most guy's have with the bike. I've also put a few hundred miles on my buddy's 5th gen VFR and I'd say that's a great bike also. The VFR's reputations speaks for it's self and I believe the 6th gen lives up to that reputation.
