I am the happy owner of a 2002 VFR....but the V-Rod has always caught my eye, and interest. A couple weeks ago I rented a black '08 model for the weekend. It had gobs of torque, surprisingly good predictable handling, an addictive stock exhaust note, ABS brakes...and probably turned more heads than my Honda.
Needless to say I am now considering selling my VFR and buying one of these modern looking sporty cruisers. I am a "motorcycle" enthusiast- not just VFR...and I am looking for feedback (HD haters, HD riders, knowledgable interesting comments, etc.) as to (1)whether or not I should buy one of these new VRODS? (2) wait for a new VFR 1000 (who knows how long?!)

don't be a cheapskate, keep the VFR, and get a Street Rod instead of a V-Rod.

I would never buy a V-Rod because it doesn't suit the type of motorcycling I like to do. If you want to buy one, I say go for it! So many bikes, so little time!

I hear you man. I am the happy owner of a 2000 VFR and am also interested in said V-ROD. Do what you have to do. Maybe you can have both? If you have time can you give more specifics on the ride/handling feel/torque/sound. I am interested having never had the opportunity to ride one. You can send a PM if you don't want to reply in general forum. Good luck.

I say keep the VFR AND get the V-Rod. There are tons of Harleys for sale with the way the economy is and all the people who overextended themselves. HDs are listed everywhere for sale around here. A VFR is a little harder to find... Don't expect the VROD to keep it's value as much as Harley's used to, though. Traditional HOG riders snubbed their noses at it and metric cruisers said other Japanese options did more for less so it is gonna be a niche bike like the VFR. It's a great bike, though. Ride what makes you happy. I wouldn't ride it unless I got it for free, but that's me. I just don't care much for the way they look. If I was gonna get a Harley, it'd be more traditional and cruiser-y except I'd probably trim it down bobber-like.

I'd like to ride one of those, after all the engine was designed by Porsche. But even if I want to buy one, I gotta have a VFR in the garage for its wide bandwidth of duty. Sporty cornering, long distance and throw in the local stuff. The V Rod is more nichey - narrow bandwidth if you will, more boulavard and local backroad stuff. I dont see a long multi dayer on that.

The V-rod looks good... very good. But I wouldn't get one.
I only see me getting a newer VFR.

I believe there is 4 versions of the V-Rod, (cruiser, canyons, Drag racing, & Bagger). & the Canyon type model handles pretty good, but would need long straights or sweepers to keep up with even a 6th gen VFR:rolleyes:.

The drag model is the fastest 1/4 mile production bike made, yes faster in the 1/4 than the Hayabusa & the ZX14 :bootyshake2:

Keep the VFR & get the V-Rod, never hurts to have more than one bike/style in the stable

But I wouldn't know anything about that

The Night Rod Special is a bad ass machine. I've been lusting after one of those for almost 2 years now. If you have interest in any of the V-Rods then check out 1130cc.com. That forum is dedicated to the V Rod.

It would be worth your time to check it out.

The Drag Model Is Not Faster than the Busa Or the GXSR 1000 or the R1 Or the Honda CBR 1000 ect and it has a slick and wheelie bars. I own a Harley and it my oppinion that if you are looking for one to be the best in anything you need to look somewhere else. If your looking for a solid, cool machine to play with and throw cool parts at, nothing better. I love Mine, the thing is bullet proof and fun to ride and play with.

Anikin, dont go to the dark side... but if you do, on the way back stop by the pet store and pick up plenty of kitty litter for the garage floor!

i would certainly consider the V ROD TO replace my VN900 next.

i like the sound of 'gobs of power' and dont mind the styling also.

i was interested to note the comments reg mentioned on dropping resale values so will have to see if there is a trickle down effect as far away
as this side of the world.

you've always gotta ride what lights your fire! :flame:
