    Hello everyone,

I recently posted a thread about what I was going to do to my new 98. I just got done doing the following and now have a few more questions..

    1. Changed oil and filter using Mobil Full Syn motorcycle oil
    2. Checked air filter (has K&N and was clean)
    3. Changed spark plugs using NGK (old were still in pretty good shape)
    4. Checked R/R part number (looks like the newer OEM, maybe has been replaced already)
    5. Clean and lube chain.

So after I get her all back together and fire'd up (after checking the oil levels and what not) I take her down the block. The throttle stuck on me a couple of times when I was gunning it and I had to hit the kill switch. Once I let it sit and restarted it, it ran good until I got back on it again over 5500 +. Now I didn't ride it enough to verify if it was sticking at a certain RPM or when I gave it a handfull. There is an aftermarket weight on the throttle side that seems to be adjustable which will tighten or lossen the throttle play. That could be the issue, I loosened it WAY out and may even take it off to re-test tomorrow. Any other ideas what might be causing it?

Another thing I noticed is the bike is much snappier meaning that the throttle 'cracks' a lot more and rev's faster.

The last thing that is different is that it seems to be idling at 1500 or so now where before it was at 1100 pretty consistently.

So any ideas on what may be going on? Is this normal with new plugs? I'm a little hesitant to ride it to much knowing that I could be in a lot worse place then in my neighborhood if the throttle decides to stick.

Thanks for taking the time to read, you guys rock!

i would pull the tank back off and make sure nothing is interfering with the throttle linkage.......or that the cable isn't pinched.....

i would also check to make sure the air filter is installed correctly......and not hanging something up...

    --Throttle sticking..
Are you talking bar end weight? Yeah the interaction of the weight and the grip could hold the throttle open. When it sticks - could force the throttle shut? Yeah do try it without the weight. If you figure "thats it" , you could cut off with a razor blade 1/8" of the outer side of grip so the weight and the grip arent pinched. Its happened to me.

    - High idle..
My guess... The bike had dino oil in its past lifetime and has been run with it till you switched to synth. So the idle speed has been set with dino in the crankcase. Now with the super slippery synth gorilla snot, the bike is going "whoo hoo!" and luving it. So the dino idle setting will run a tick faster with the synth in it.
Not to worry - run the bike 1200 - 1500 miles as is and then decide if you want to bump the idle down a bit.

Enjoy you new beast - good luck.

Cool, thanks for the suggestions. I guess the plan of attack will be to run it without the weight and see what happens. If that doesn't do it then I'll check the throttle cable.

So nothing with any hoses or vacuums that could be causing anything? I don't think anything got pinched since everything seemed to go back together smoothly.

I guess if the throttle sticks open again, pay attension to - can I force it closed? or does it still stick even then with a forced shut at the grip.

Well never say never - hoses and vacuums may be the next go 'round and now your getting into "gotta be there" type of help. I would double check and see if you left anything disconnected or anything is off for grins anyhoo.

Here a link that may help too...

Well I just got back from a around the block ride after loosening the 'Throttlemiester' way up. So far so good, the throttle didn't stick open at all even after taking it up to 10k.

The idle is definitely higher, probably around 1600-1700. That seems like a big jump just from an oil and spark plug change... Also, I don't understand why the throttlmeister would stick after the tune-up and not before...

The thing definitely has some more power now, it just seems a lot crisper, and the throttle is way more responsive then before. I hope that's a good thing and not something I screwed up. :)

Idle - well you could turn it down if you want. The bikes probly fine - you just gave it fresh everything.

More Power? Whoo hoo! Thats why its called a tune up! I'd go riding.
