These are the standard numbers on any sport, or sport touring tire in every single manual. Good numbers for high milage, not good for traction at heavy lean angles. Its a good place to start, but do more specific research on your exact tires if you want to ride them aggressively. Tire reps from the company can tell you exact tire pressure for a specific tire they make depending on the outside tempature. Mostly you will only find these guys at track days, but they are the authority. Sometimes they can be reached over the phone depending on the customer service of the specific company. Also, OEM tires are usually not the quality that aftermarket tires are. A good example of this is the Dunlop qualifiers. Everyone hates the OEMS(made in France) on the ZX10. but many swear by the aftermarket replacements(made in Japan).

Would having lower air px not increase ones contact patch? Just curious... Do you think it's possible that dealers are sending out new bikes with fresh tires at lower psi's to decrease the all to common crash in the parking lot. Once again just curious... I am running 36F 42R.

I run factory spec maybe -1. The pressure should be listed on the lower frame right above your chain. 36front and 42 rear.

Lower presure could increase your contact patch. This would help in a lean. but then again, it can also contribute to greater flatspotting down the middle of the tire when riding stright lines (commuting to work).

I am not so sure that the dealers are making a concious decision to lower the pressure. My guess is that they do not provide the techs with $1.00 preasure guages. I have noticed whether car, truck or motorcycle tires that I have to guage and adjust air pressure as soon as I get the machine home. I think they just guess.

    Last truck tire change:
    32,32,35,41
    Last CAR
    32,32,36,41
    last motorcycle
    32,32

It would be rare to find someone at a dealer that understands anything about tire pressure. They typicaly send all sport tires out at the 36 42. These are rock hard pressures for touring riding, good tire life. If its very hot out expect your air pressure to rise 6-8 pounds once tires are warm. If you are an aggressive rider try a lower pressure of say 34 or 36 both front and rear. Did you know that for track ridding and aggressive streat riding you are supposed to have a pound or 2 less in your rear? The rear tire heats up more than the front, it does all the engine braking and accelerating. Also on a cold day too much air pressure can stop the tires from heating up to full temp. So dont forget 36-42 is ONLY for Touring, not for leaning hard, you will find out the hard way.:pope2:
