Hi all, new to me VFR, 17K on the odo. The guy had a 98 that he put 110K on so he took care of it pretty well. New tires, chain well lubed/adjusted oil changed, Staintune exhaust, KandN filter.

I did some in- town riding and some short 100MPH bursts and I noticed the temp climb to 220, I think the fan then came on and it started to go down slowly. Is this normal?

Second, the clutch seemed somewhat grabby/slip when I would be going slow and need to turn and start off. Are there any known issues with the clutch? Anything I need to watch out for?

Third- as I would get on the throttle I notice some vibes as the power would build and then it would smooth out. I guess I would say at the point the motor was lugging gaining revs and putting out torque. I guess I am curious if this is common or is a sign of some type of problem? It revs out nice, the V boost is cool and other than that it seems to run good.

Temp is completely fine and normal. I just got an 08 and my first impression of the clutch and tranny is that shifting is very smooth, in 1st gear taking off the clutch feels "grabby" tho. It stalls easy without proper gas, I think Im just not used to a V4 motor. If your clutch is slipping you will notice revs going up after you have let go of it. It may have a really worn in friction point is all. This bike makes a bit of engine noise/vibration but nothing that vibrates my whole body, its minor. The V4 grumbles at low RPM's, I like it! You will have to just watch the oil and coolant for any evidence of issues, you just have the "I hear eveything wrong with my new bike problem"! Good luck!

thanks for the reply! The vibes are not like its shaking to death or anything its just a break in the smoothness as the revs climb. ONce it gets past this point it smoothes back out. I ride a thumper so I know about vibes.

    Hi,

I have a 2002 also. Just learning about it. I've noticed the clutch (after the bike is warmed up, has been out on a run) going into 1st and starting out will sometimes just flat out stall. Could be that I'm just tired and not releasing right, but I think it becomes touchy after a nice hot run. Just have to remember to give it extra gas.

As far as lugging in low revs, I try to not let mine get below 5,000rpm. Or it does tend to lug until it gets higher in the power band. I checked with some of the guys on here and about 5,000 rpm is normally where you would gear up or down.

Mine had 14,000 on it, oh and the temp is normal too. I was told a fan turns on at about 220 or 225 and cools it down. I was out riding on a 90 degree day and the temp never got over 225. If it's at 230, then you can start to worry, from what I've been told.

The people are great on this site. I just got mine in January.

You will enjoy! They are a great bike and I'm very glad I chose the one I did.

    Take care!

    Theresa

PS - what color did you get?

Theresa thanks for the reply. I actually was able to ride it today for my first road trip, ran the tank dry. The temp stay around 175 until you stop and then it starts climbing until the fans come on. Glad to see its normal. I was in Daytona today trying to make my way home stuck in traffic about 1PM and it was HOT. The motor going up to 221 sure doesnt help things; I did have mesh on but its almost July in FL so comes with the territory. I noticed when I got home that the clutch is chattering some and I did stall it once in stop and go traffic. It is I am sure also the effect of it getting so hot.

I have some Staintune pipes on it and I love the sound when you are just putting/starting out; just like a V8!!!
